Icon5 Auto Tranny recommendation needed, B18A1

95 Civic LX with D15B7 and automatic transmission. Blew the head gasket again on the D15 so bought a used 92-93 Integra B18B1 engine.

What B-Series AUTOMATIC transmission would work best with the B18 engine? I read that only B-Series transmissions will bolt up to the B18.

Civic is OBD1 and B18A1 is OBD1.

I want an automatic for convenience, this is a daily drive and not a race car.

The common sense approach would suggest that you utilize the matching/equivalent transmission to the engine.

I've heard/read before that there is a space issue when swapping an auto b into a civic. You may want to research that before you move forward.

I was wondering which would have the best gearing between the B auto transmissions. My guess would be that the matching Integra B18 automatic transmission would be my best choice. I would like to hear suggestions on which automatic has better gear ratios.

I will continue looking but there really isn't much information on D2B swaps with auto transmission. I read that the Integra auto transmission has a TCU where the Civic does not.

you dont have an option. trans must match ecu. your ONLY choice in an overly complicated swap to net mayyyybe 20 horsepower and still have a slushbox is a 94-95 integra ls automatic transmission, with the ecu from the same car.

If you can't manual swap it, don't do it at all.

Get a auto trans from a 94-97 integra, and get the ecu and tcu from a 94-95 integra, the automatic integra engine harness, and a custom trans mount, then call rywire and ask them for an auto swap b series ecu harness......thats what i did in my old eg sedan

Note, you will need to make room on the frame to fit the transmission, and you will need to do some wiring

Honestly, its not worth it to swap in the auto b series. You would be better off just fixing the d15

You're gonna have to locate all the wires going into the tcm. I would suggest using the civic engine harness and repin from there.

Or not mess with repinning the wiring harness and just buy a rywire harness thats plug and play bringing the ecu and tcu together.

I recall telling the last person to do this and they stated that they were on a budget.....This particular swap is all fine and dandy but it comes down to the wiring and that is where it gets challenging.

Not every one is good with wiring, and could potentialy damage something if done wrong. Thats why i recomend the harness.....**** i did mine on a budget and it saved me a crap load of a headache. Its worth it if your not to good with wiring or dont want to mess with wiring in that area, but if your confident with your wiring skills then go for it. Just my opinion

I thank you all for the help.

Can you elaborate on the function of the harness and what would be needed after its install? It doesn't look like it connects to the tranny.

I'm not afraid of wiring as long as I have all the necessary information to complete the task.

My thinking is the civic has an ECU only but the b18 auto tranny needs the TCM to control it. I would need to add the TCM by wiring the TCM to the tranny and the ECU. Right? crzdmngz put a lot of effert into his thread on wiring the TCM to the ECU but the pics are unclear on certain points but a great post all the same.

My ECU is PR4-L61 so it is already an Integra 92-93 AT FED ECU or should i use a different ECU?

I need more information which I haven't found in the week I've been looking. I learn more everyday though so it is not in vain. It's the details that are missing.

I'm seeing that this swap is not popular and not well documented. We are going to do this swap and document the entire process with pics, videos, part numbers and diagrams. Once completed a manual in pdf format will be compiled and free to anyone who wants a copy.

The harness they sell, connects the tcu and ecu into the civic wire harness. You need to do small wiring with it, a few wires to the shifter and a few to the auto trans sensors. Its very simple and they include an instruction manual to do the few wires so you dont mess up.....i too used crzdmngz's how to, but it didnt work for me, the car would not down shift or reverse. He even tried to help me with it, thats when i decided to just spend the cash at rywire.....in my opinion, find a obd1 p75 auto ecu, 94-97 tcu ( they are the same thru those years), and a 94-97 teg auto trans (also the same thru those years). Makes it so much easier then trying to mess with da teg parts.....i used all parts from a 97 integra except the ecu cuz it was obd2

Thanks slow!
Can you tell me about your swap?
What is the reason I shouldn't use the PR4 ECU? I know nothing about this.

This swap i did in a 94 lx sedan

I had a full parts car 97 integra, pulled engine, trans, and engine wire harness, and tcu.

Auto integra rear t bracket

Auto integra axles.

Do to the integra auto trans being wider, and no welder around. I had to use a torch to heat the passenger frame rail, and hammer to create enough clearence to fit it, lots of test fitting on that one.

Then came the transmission mount problem. Theres no room to fit a stock mount, i had a theroy after i did the swap, that if you swap over the integra frame trans mount you may be able to use the stock mount, or have a custom mount made. I ended up leaving the mount out completly and used the torque mounts instead.

Axles were no problem, remove d series and replace with b series...make sure you get the automatic intermediate shaft

Used the stock d series shift linkage.

Rywire auto swap ecu harness.

B series drivers side motor mount. I dont remember if i used the b series rear mount or not.

Plugged the integra engine harness into the civic body harness, there will be an extra plug on the passenger side, this is where the rywire harness will get wired into.

Ended up having to buy a obd1 p75 ecu, do to it being a obd1 car i was swapping into.

The reason i say not to get da integra parts is because the dc integra trans is a lot simpler as far as sensors and idk how big the da trans is compaired to the dc trans. It seems harder to find parts for da's compaired to dc's. And you can find auto dc's easier( at least in my area)

Honestly i would suggest finding a full parts car, they are fairly cheap and would cost about the same as buying all the parts seperatly. I traded a quad for my parts car. Plus you can part out the rest of the integra and make some money back lol.

Feels like im forgetting something, if i think of it i will edit this
