Default 5G VX, DX or CX? Which is best for swap?

I've spent hundereds of hours searching, but I still don't know which is best for a B18C swap, or possibly ITR? I don't want P/S or A/C. I want the lightest hatch, and the fewest hassles for the swap. I also am planning on doing a rear disce swap. Total budget is 12K. Want a 94 to 95 because of the dual airbags. Which hatch is right for my project? Is that rear disce swap w/ a GSR a pain in the *** or what? Any input greatly appreciated. Thanx

Cool, but which one is lightest, and are there any ecu issues or emissions equipment that needs to be considered when choosing between VX, or CX? What about the lack of tachometer? Will a GSR gauges replace the stock hatchs gauges? I know the EX civic gauge cluster can be swapped, but that tach only revs to 7K. Is this the reason why people buy those ridiculous huge tachs?

vx would be the best choice it has tach, prewired for vtec , and lightest of them all but if not cx would do just fine... and to be exact vx model tach goes to 8k and ex and si to 9k

VX should be your weapon of choice. All VTEC wiring is there, tachometer is also present. I have a SiR motor in my VX and its great.

Lightest models are either CX or VX. Although, with a VX, VTEC wiring is already embedded in the underdash-to-shock tower plugs, so you can either reuse the VX harness or pick up a 92-95 Si/EX engine harness.

ITR motor would be less wiring hassles since you wouldn't need to wire up the 2ndary butterfly bullsh*t like you would on a GSR engine. Also, if you went with an ITR motor, I suggest you get a US 96-01 ITR/GSR engine harness (since all ITR engines are OBD2 anways, might as well compliment that)....even though its a OBD2 harness it will still plug n' play onto an EG chassis, minus a few plugs which would not be used.

A rear disc brake upgrade isn't hard to apply. Ya just need to have everything there to complete the install. 94+ integra rear trailing arms with complete brakes intact with rotor+caliper, parking brake lines, and brake fluid lines...thats about it.

CX and VX weigh both the same. I would suggest VX because of the vtec wiring already there (mentioned above), as well as tach already, but you can always get a si/ex cluster.

i thought the cx was lighter considering it has heavier wheels and still has the same curb weight. both are wired for vtec if its a 92. you can buy my cx w/ gsr.

yes your right about all 92 civics having embedded vtec wiring from the ecu-shock tower.

Chassis wise only, the 92-93 CX & VX are the same weight.

Between CX and Vx the weight difference is so insignficant that you might as well get the VX to save yourself the trouble of rewiring and geting a tach. However if your that worried about performance id say get Cx. Its got the bare necessities, nuttin extra.

well you said in yer first post that you wanted the LIGHTEST HATCH, well heres one for ya, if you want the lightest hatch, then dont do a rear disc conversion, cause it weighs alot, and also, u said u wanted a 94-95, with airbags, and they weigh alot also, so if yer tryin to save weight, then try to bend around those 2 afformentioned items..

ugh the rear disc conversion weighing alot? Ask Tom as he has a rear disc conversion. I think he's a little below 2000 lbs..

Above all I don't want to get killed in my hatch! This is why I feel it necessary for rear disces, and a passenger airbag. I think these are very important features in any fast car(when driving w/ girlfriend), and I think it's worth a little extra weight. Afterall, wouldn't the rear disces give a little bit better weight distribution. How much would you guys think the rear disce set-up would add to the total weight. I'm guessing less than 100 lbs, am I right?

Although it's the heaviest maybe a '95 Si!! It's got the extra weight of a moonroof, power steering, dual SRS, rear speakers, power mirrors, rear disk, and the A/C option. haha.... Personally I don't mind the few extra pounds... I like the power steering rack with no compressor because it's harder and for some reason I am weird and like it. The mirrors are cool... The moonroof and A/C could go... And everything else is fine... Good luck!!!

Keep in mind if you get a Dx hatch made in 92... If it says Honda of Canada..that also has the wires for Vtec. And the Dx model (stock weight is ~2170lbs ) is easily made light like the cx and vx models.(stock weight is ~2070lbs) ...Dx's are A LOT easier to find!!!! Chip the floor sound deadening material ... Back seats, panels, rear belts, Junk all the A/c + the lil radiatorcore in evap box. Dx's come w/ a manual rack sometimes... so don't worry about p/s. You can eaisly buy a single bolt w/ rubber gromet to replace the rear wiper motor.. and bracket is same.. that saves ~10lbs! Get a Si/Ex gauge cluster for ~75-100bucks. I think dx's look better w/ the rubber door ding guard instead of the grand canyon pit that the Cx model has in its doors!
But the Vx is a good find.. if it comes w/ the Si lip, the wiperless rear hatch. +has the aerodynamic under panel behind drivers side rear wheel to reduce drag @ high speed.
From a Manual tranny car.

rear discs would not add much weight at all, not even 100 pounds, and I am sure you will find them a great mod for performance and for safety.

dual airbags is a good thing, so glad to see someone with a mind for safety.

The '94-'95 Civic VX Hatchback is what you should be looking for... because it offers a tach, vtec wired already, dual airbags, light weight chassis and pretty cheap used if you find one from someone not into hot-rodding hondas.
