Hey....well i have had a 1992 Civic CX Hatchback for the last year and one day while i was driving. the engine completely gave out I love the car and would rather keep it then junk it or sell it. well I just want to know is the vx [vtec-e motor] motor a direct fit for the CX? i mostly drive on the highway so the vx would give me a extremely better advantage but worst come to worst i;ll just put a cx in it.
Does the VX and the CX uses the same transmission? or would i have to swap tranny too?

The vx is a d15z1?
what is the cx engine code, im thinkin d15b8?

not a direct swap. you will need some wiring performed (more or less depending on what year your car is), a new computer, and an oxygen sensor.

well, its a 92 so the car is prewired for vtec, wire it to the shock tower and you are good, get the p07 ecu out of the vx, get the wideband o2 wiring, egr wiring, and swap it, wire it, and drive it.

tranny is the same btw. need any help PM me.

hope he gets teh 5 wire o2 with the motor.. or else it cost like 250 bucks from autozone....

if that doesnt work... get a p28 have it chipped with vx maps.. i used a z6 intake manifold dc header and exhaust with ex tranny.. i got usually 32mpgcity if i didnt beat on it.. if i beat it i would get 26 city..

i also ran a 9.87 in the eight with the vx motor.. i had vtec engage at 3600 rev limit at 6500 with p28 maps...

for the more fuel effecient id have vtec engage at 3000 and use vx maps

Yeah that O2 is a ******* rip off for most cars..but for that one it's especially bad...

It's early here, too early for me, I read that like 3x and didn't process the "eight" and was like "9.87...bullshit..." --- haha

not exactly a powerhouse , but VTEC-E combined with roller cam make it very easy on gas.

wire it to the shock tower what do you mean by that? wire the vtec ground?and you are good, get the p07 ecu out of the vx, can i use the exisiting CX ecu?
get the wideband o2 wiring, do you mean just the wideband o2 sensor is it the harness? or both?
egr wiring, is this just the harness?
and swap it, wire it, and drive it.

its really going to be a pain in the *** to wire up all the 5 wire o2 and egr crap.....

get a z6 harness p28 ecu.. chip it with vtec at 3k rev limit at 6500.. get a z6 intake manifold.. its all plug and play then

that setup wont give much increase in MPG over the 8valve cx setup, i ran almost the identical setup and only got a max of 38mpg.


if you get the whole engine harness for the vx it will have all the o2 stuff, and egr wires to the shock tower, you will then have to add the harness for the rest of the EGR wiring to the ecu..

prewired for vtec to the shock tower means, from the ecu to the shock tower, you just have to run the wires to the solenoid from the shock tower harness.
you CAN use the cx ecu, but it wont run worth a crap, and will probably get worse MPG than the stock cx did.

do it right, or dont do it at all.

Basically, unless you have easy access to all the parts, it's not going to be worth the hassle. Best bet is to just get a d15b7 (dx engine) and run it off of a p06 dx/lx ecu with your current cx trans.

To me, simplicity with 40mpg is better than complexity with 43mpg.

That is of course, if you're not trying to prove a point like those guys on gassavers.org....

that honda civic looks like a concept insight from the eg civic era hahah. well yea the problem with my civic is complicated, I looked at my cx up close and the engine doesnt look like it shot after all. It just wont start. it trys to crank over but wont fully start. so i have to see whats wrong. but i will most likely keep the cx and just try to fix it.

i get 27mpg city with my y8, and im on it all day long.

I averaged 38 mpg mixed city and highway and i didint drive it easy either. z6 swap in my dx sedan.

thats funny.. i used to get 22-23 mpg city all motor... put my turbo on i get 28-31 depending on how i drive.. seriously...

20 bucks worth of 91 octane i got 259 miles on 8.3 gallons

That guy on gas savers really proved his point. He gets 69mpg in his cx. It has a dx engine.

I average 40mpg and I'm on it all the time. Just got to have gas saving mods. My worst tank was 35mpg. I did countless jackrabbit accelarations and hauled *** on the freeway.

The vx gets 55mpg easily on the freeway. Just do the vx swap. It's a headache at first but it will pay off later.

as of right now im gonna see what i can do with this cx motor if its shot then the vx is going in.
