Default 1978 Civic Hybrid?

This is Mike K. My screen name is not working right now, but anyway...
I just picked up a 1978 Civic hatch auto. Wondering if anyone has done a D16 swap or any other kind of swap into it. If anyone has ANY info on this car, email HondaMike12345@aol.com or hit up Mike K here on IM.

If a swap is too hard, I'll just restore it as is. I just thought it'd be cool to have a classic Honda with a swap.

Is your car a CVCC or a 1200?
If it is a CVCC 1.5 you can swap in a complete (with carb, exhaust manifold, etc.) 1.8 engine from a 1979-80 Accord. It bolts right in using the Civic mounts and either the Civic or Accord trans. The hot set up used to be to use a Canadian Accord motor as it is non-cvcc and has more performance potential than the american market cvcc motors. If this interests you, I can put you in touch with a guy that has a car like the one I just told you about.
I haven't heard of anyone swapping in a later motor but I would be suprised if someone hasn't done that too.

not hard at all, just finished a 1991 auto ex engine in a 1979 wagon. converted it to fuel injection as well, hell it even meets 1991 emissions standards. it was basically a lot of wiring and a little cut and welding. i got pics around of it somewhere as well.

i very highly doubt a b18c has enough torque to lift a civic off the ground.

You could swap pretty much any engine into the car, but it will take some custom fabrication. If i were you, i would get an engine hoist and some floor jacks and position the wanted engine in the engine bay in the poisition that best gives a straight line from the axle holes on the transmission to the hubs. Then use cardboard to mock up mounts and make them. after you get the engine physically bolted into the car, you can worry about fabricating custom shift linkages and things. you'll probably have to have custom axles made as well, and maybe even swap the hubs.

As for the wiring, it would be easier to swap a complete MPFI harness from a newer civic into the car and run it as if it was the newer civic.

anything is possible if you have the drive, determination, fabrication skills, and most importantly, the money.

Currently, a friend and I are custom swapping a d16z6 with the hydraulic S20 transmission into an 88 STD hatchback. We had to custom make mounts and an adapter for the clutch cable. we're also doing a multipolt conversion and converting to OBD1 using a p28 at the same time.

good luck
