Problems with Alaniz Technologies
Hello all,
I have "little" problem - I placed order to Alaniz Technologies for Honda S2000 parts. Included Cunningam rods, 2.0 lenght, turbo rods.
http://alaniztechnologies.com
it was 26 of october 2005. The guy in Alaniz, Joe told me factory need 2 months to produce the rods, and after 3 month I asked Joe why order still not ready.
I got email from him:
"I am trully sorry for any delays and not getting back to you in a timely fashion. . Unfortunatly I had a major out falling with my ROD supplier. They will no longer suppliy me the rods at my normal cost. Couldnt come to an greement. I have all the other parts minus the rods. All this waiting for nothing. Price became the issue. They can sell the rods to other customers at a much much much higher price so I am being forced out. Are you willing to pay a bit more for the rods? About $300.00us dollars more? Yes thats crazy! Doesnt seem fair but its thier way, or no way.
I do have another option.......I have new 2.2 liter crank and rods I was going to use on my race engine. If you would like I can give you those parts at an addtional $xxx Thats crank and rods. Let me know what you think. Like I said I hope we can work something out.
Joe Alaniz"
it was 29 of january. I agreed take 2.2 crank and have paid to Alaniz bank account additional xxxUSD with the rest of invoice ammount. 21 of february I got last email from Alaniz technologies and from this date they not reply and nobody never answer the phone. Now, I have paid to their bank account few thousands USD and nobody do not answer and not send the order.
May be some guys knows Joe personally and you can ask him why he do this?
I found was simular problem in this forum 1 year ago, someone sent to Alaniz S2000 head and received it back after few months, and all was the same - nobody not answered the phone and emails.
My best regards,

Sorry to hear, I've heard nothing but good things so far about Alaniz, but I'm not a customer so I can't say beyond that. Maybe someone here closer to him can help you out.
Sorry to hear all this. I have never purchased any services from Joe Alaniz. I met him a few times, he was a really cool guy. I know many people in southern california that have had him port thier heads, and build thier motors. He built a friend of mines race motors for quite some time as well. From what I understand he has been around the racing world for years, and is very experienced. in southern Cali he is a big name to the Street,Drag, and road race scenes. I am not sure he would take your money.... He may just be super busy. don't get me wrong you have waited a long time, and paid a lot of money...So I don't think this is right at all..... Keep trying to reach him. I hope all works out!!
Doesn't matter how good your reputation is, all it takes is one blemish to start having people second guessing. I don't think he took your money and ran with it, but not replying to contact is unprofessional, and straight shady, no matter who you are.
Wow, that sucks. Especially since Alaniz has (or had) such a good name. But that whole situation does'nt sound right.
If I ordered and payed for something with a said price, no matter what happens, I want that item that you (the vendor) were offering at that time. I don't know the situation, but the customer should NEVER be responsible for a fall out between the vendor and their supplier.
Sometimes to save face, a BUISNESS MUST take a hit to please the customer and fufill their order. My .02.

^^^ Agreed x3. I take hits all the time for hooking people up, but my word is my word. No mid-job price jacking here.

I know him personally (Joe the owner of alaniz). He is not the type to rip anybody off for sure. Sometimes it takes a long time to get quality work done. I know for sure that he does not pick up the phone if he is porting. Not sure if he still has workers or not. As far as the emailing not sure why he is not responding. He does tend to get overbooked with people coming into his shop...You should try emailing him at least once a day to get him to respond. I'm not trying to defend him on what he is doing but I wouldn't be worried...you will get your stuff. Sometimes it's hard being the nice guy that is willing to help out too many people

What I find most disturbing is that he went back on what he had initially advertised. That is not acceptable. There should have been NO MENTION of what was going on with the price fall out with his supplier. He should've apologized for the delay, and bit the bullet and payed the difference. After all, the customer had already payed in full for what Alaniz was promoting on their site.
And dragging even more with out communication only frustrates people even more. I don't care if the shop called and said they were taking a dump all day, avoiding a PAYING CUSTOMER IS NOT GOOD BUISNESS ETHIC. Period.

Expect nothing but delay's from Alaniz. I had to wait months for my head (and I was one of the earlier F20C head's to get ported). The work was however very good quality.

it took 4months to get my head back from joe so you gonnna have to wait it out....this guys extremely busy....and plus he takes his time on everything....he is a good guy...you will get your stuff its going to just be a while trust me just call him or whatever so he remember about you
i'm in the same position as you are right now.... joe deposited the check, and it's been cleared.... but no response nor i can get a hold of him.
met him in person and i got to say he is a nice guy, but not returning calls or give customer somewhat of an update is really bad service on his part.
**UPDATE**
Just got a call from Joe, almost made me feel bad for making this post, but nonetheless, have faith in him!

this isn't news to me. i keep hearing about how the est. times for work exceed it greatly. 2 month projects taking up to 6 months or more.
his work is amazing, so you do get what you pay for. to me it would be worth the wait.
you just can't hold people to their words when they say something will arrive or be done, theirs so many little things that can go against you.

WOW, This is like the 20th story I have heard like this. DANG PEOPLE DO YOURSELFS A FAVOR STAY AWAY!!!! A local guy near me got hosed so I started doing a search and the stories go on and on. When will people wake up and stop supporting this!
Ok, another 1,5 months left, no any response from Alaniz.
From next week i will start make them troubles through bank - where i paid the money - and through the law court. Looks like it's only one way to get money or parts from Alaniz, I can't see other ways.
Good luck to all get your heads back from them and please do not send them new ones, it's just advice

agreed. its been months and monrths number one, number two, when a price is agreed upon, there is no renigging. thats the craziest thing ive ever heard, it is now HIS problem to get the rods ANYWAY and pay the 300 dollar difference, then appologize to you and take care of you. if he wants his business to fail, hes headed strait as an arrow in the right direction this is one of the most rediculous things ive ever heard... i dont care how cool the guy is, this is a matter of very shady business practices and i would have been on a plane the first of february to go pay joe a little visit, and i wouldnt leave untill it was finished. i would then have him deduct all labor costs, take my motor, and tell him that i would make sure that i or any of my peers ever become customers of his again.
cool is cool business is business. i would be so heated

perhaps, but as someone experienced in business and deadlines.... YOU GET IT DONE. or you say, no, it wont be two months, its gonna be 3 years. thats what we call a disclaimer- the customers he's getting are the only reason that he is allowed to continue running his business... if he thinks he can just 'have good work' at the cost of other peoples time and money hes living in a dream world... there is no excuse for this or any situation like this. thats just being real.
