Check Engine light
as i was driving home, my "check engine" light came on. I really didnt kick it, though to 7500rpm on third and threw it around the off ramp. I read the owners manual and it says its either the emissions control or gas cap, but i havent filled my car yet and its running with only 2bars of gas left.
any of you guys have this problem? if i scanned the computer and found what the problem is and cleared it, would that help, or do you guys recommend taking it to the dealer to check it out? im guessing they would also scan to see what the problem is right?
help! i dont feel like driving the car, but i need to drive it...
thanks for viewing and replying!

scan it and get the code or what the problem is to see how serious it is....thats what the dealership will do....
Ok, i found out what the problem is. I scanned it and it said the problem is the "O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction. Bank 1 sensor 2"
where is that located? is it busted, or loose?

What years your car, how many miles and did you by it from Honda?
If its that sensor theres a good chance that the cat went bad to. Same thing happened to my g/f's S. First cel, never replaced the sensor and eventually the cat went bad and started making noise.
Cats have 7-75 factory warrenty and hers was replaced under it including the sensor.

i cleared the code and it came back on, so im sure its a fried sensor. Im awaiting a new one from dealer, but wont come in til tuesday. Is it ok to drive the car the way it is, or do you not recommend not driving it? i wouldnt think it'd be a problem driving it, just as long as i dont drive it hard.

Heater failure has nothing to do with a bad cat. And the Cat warranty is 8yrs or 80K miles not 7-75.
The O2 sensor sticks out of the cat and has wires coming out of it. And you are fine to drive the car until you repair the sensor.

It's 8-80, I work for Honda.
From your previous post it sounds like the sensor failed before the cat if the light was already on. A bad secondary o2 ignored for long enough can cause a cat failure.
Also, cat pailure throws a P0420 code which is different than the codes for a o2

I dont see how a bad secondary o2 sensor could cause a cat to fail. How could it?

It cant.
A Primary can, not a secondary.
Remember guys, all the secondary does is monitors the efficiency of the cat. Basically If its doing its job correctly.
The primary, Reads Raw exhaust gas. say it was giving improper readings and tricking the ecu into dumping a little more fuel.
The raw fuel, aka rich A/F mixture, can inturn ruin the catalytic converter.

You mean it reads how much oxygen is in the exhaust gas, right?
