I'm going to the track in a week. So I decided to make myself a camera mount. I wanted it mounted on the secret compartment door so you can see my mad shifting skills and my nunchuck skills.
What you see here is a peice of aluminum channel about 11'' long. The holes are pre-embossed for the windscreen, so lining up chores are easy.
Find the center of your aluminum channel piece. Then measure 118.5mm or 11.85cm from the center out to each side. Drill the mounting holes there.
Use nylon bushings for mounting posts. This makes the mount sit even (the secret compartment door is curved so you can't just sit the aluminum on top of it). I used 2 long 10mm bolts and obviously 2 10mm nuts to secure it underneath.
The first washer is just a regular steel washer. The one underneath is a neoprene rubber washer to damp vibrations.
Drill a hole into the center of your channel peice to mount the ball head (tee hee) for the camera.
Ball heads (tee hee) can be found on camera tripods. They can also be found as sole peices...but I found that buying a junky $14.99 tripod was cheaper than buying a $19.99 ball head alone.
Make sure the tripod you buy has a screw on ball head.
It's very self explanitory. It took me only a few mins. It looks a little rough in the pictures mostly because of the horrible lighting. But it looks very professional in real life.

I think I'm going to have to raise up the mount just a little bit so you can see over the dash more. For this, I'll just use some longer nylon bushings and longer bolts. Easy sleazy.
You can find the parts at hardware stores. The total including the tripod came out to like $20 or something.
14.99 for the tripod.

Just took a short video with my actual camera today. It sits vertically so extending the legs was not nessecary. It sits perfect. I made sure to hit a few bumps and it was rock solid.
IT WORKS!
IT WORKS!

Did you walk into a living room expecting to have intercourse with a 14 year old or something? You would.

good job on DIY but i still prefer my modifry cam mount. i don't have to remove the wind screen and i just pop the actual cam mount part on whenever i need it and put it away when not in use.
