im really frustrated with my leaking trunk need some ideas. Its absolutly pouring in the northeast today and i thought i fixed my leaks but i was wrong. The trunk doesn't have any panels or anything so i can try and source the problem.

Here is what i have done. Sunroof lines are clear(ive put a hose in the sunroof tray and watched the water come out the bottom). I've resealed the vents with silicon. My 4th gen doesnt have an antenna (welded shut) so there is no hole to leak through. and the tail light gaskets are new and i cant feel any water coming from the area. The water doesnt get into the spare tire well unless i drive it and it runs down from either side. All the water is sitting up by the wheel wells. It seems like eveywhere else is dry except for the area where it leaks. Any insight would be great. Thanks

I know your pain my 90 Si 4ws is leaking from where I got rear ended after I bought it. To answer your question is water coming in before or after you drive it? If after check underneath the car. My old teg rusted out under the sparetire compartment so everytime I hit a puddle water splashed in.

yea major pain in the ***. It leaks when its just sitting there. I mean it can only be coming from so many places i dont know where else it could be getting in.

Soak it with the hose and then get inside and trace the leaks?

I would recommend a really thorough inspection of the trunk seal also,
maybe there are some small cracks. As suggested above, getting in the
boot with a torch and having someone hose the trunk may be the best way
to work it out man.

yea guess im gonna have to get in there with a light. Maybe ill do it tomorrow and see what i come up with.

if it's a 4th gen, i bet it coming from the rear windshield lower seal on the outside between the windshield and trunk. that seal gets hard and loose over time. it only clips into holes on the body and if that piece is loose, it'll leak through there.

^ Thats definately a possibility too. I never had a leak there, but when
i first got my lude that strip was in terrible shape. I had to take off the
plastic coating, sand the rust off of the metal, fill a few little bits, and
then i painted it with a kill rust expoxy type paint. Its been seven years
now and still in good shape.

Could be the taillights. It was on my 92 accord. Like someone said, get in the car at night with a flashlight and have a friend spray it with a hose.

thanks for the replys. it is a 4th gen but that seal is also brand new. every weather stripping seal was replaced on my car when it was repainted a couple months ago.

Hmm, on mine atm the rear sunroof drain valve that goes through the body wasn't clogged with anything but somehow got pinched not letting the water drain as fast as it should letting it get into the trunk in the spare tire area. I know you said that it wasn't clogged but did you look at it from the outside behind the bumper? Mine would still let water drain, just not fast enough and since that valve isn't sealed to its hose it would leak where the hose went in cause it filled up in the valve.

yea i was thinking that as well. Maybe ill pull the tube out and snip the end off so its bigger and can drain quicker

^^^ it's not part of the drain tube... the valve is what the tube connects too (you should know where it's at since you have already tried to fix the problem)...

If you get underneath the car just behind the rear wheel you will see a black rubber drain that looks similar to this



The picture is obviously the part of the valve that is in the interior of the car but you are looking for the exterior side... find it and cut a bigger whole in it... also suck up the dirt with a shop vac so it won't be clogged anymore. I personally took a wire to break up the dirt in the valve/ sucked up the dirt/ and cut the valve to have a bigger opening with tin snips...
