I've heard people putting engine oil (10w-30) into their trannies and using it in place of tranny fluid without having any problems. What if you use MTF as engine oil? Would it hurt the engine? (not that I plan on doing this, just curious)

LOL!
1.) Why would you want to?
2.) It would break down REALLY fast!
3.) There are some cars that use ATF/MTF fluid as power steering fluid.
I would NEVER use ATF/MTF as an oil...It WOULDNT work!
(I work at Vavlvoline)

Yes people do use motor oil in your tranny. No it won't break your tranny although I imagine it would take more wear and tare when compared to MTF. Why even do this tho?

Actually I'm ASE Certified and work at Pepsi, went to automotive tech school for a year. The MTF/ATF have about 90-95 percent detergents in them and people do run it through their engine all the time. It won't hurt your bearings and no more than ten minutes at an idle and your engine is pretty much ready to be drained and refilled with your particular choice of engine oil. IT WONT HURT YOUR ENGINE!

so what are you saying? the MTF works as a cleaning additive for our engines?

MTL = Honda's Manual Transmission Lube = w30 oil
ATF = Automatic Transmission fluid = Very high in detergent
Putting MTL in the oil will just make the oil less viscous, which isn't good for startup
Putting ATF = Just scares me, if the motor has been running great, leave it alone..

Even that doesn't make much sense. If you using it to clean your engine then why not just buy a OSC SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to clean your oil system. Peeps is wierd these days.

i was in a desperate attempt to get my car across 4 states once (FL 2 KY) while i was throwing some fuel code that i couldn't fix, so i poured a bottle of atf in the tank that was 1/4 full tryed to clean the fuel system, the car made it! with 60-70 psi compression drop in every cylinder!

i'm ase certified also...!?
you can run 1 qt of atf with your oil before an oil change to take advantage of the detergents DO NOT FILL YOUR ENGINE WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID
change your oil every 3,000 miles and you won't have to worry about de-sludging.
