strange noise when decel (searched)
86K miles, SS base model
Ok, I have noticed my lude makes a strange noise when i let off the gas at low speeds. Usually its like under 20 or 30mph. I let off the gas, the car starts to decel, then I hear rah-rah-rah-rah sound in synch with the engine speed, but also changes when the tranny shifts from say, 2nd to 1st. Anyone have a clue of what I'm talking about? i know its hard to tell from what I'm describing, but hey..any inout is better than no input.
thanks,
neil

Maybe its clutch chatter - maybe you have a leak somewhere - and there's oil on the clutch surface.....
Maybe theres a hot spot some where.......
Maybe its trying to pull out of gear or something..........who knows................rah-rah-rah-rah-rah isn't really helpful.
You might be missing something out of your 1st-2nd synchro...................i don't know............we need a sound clip.

Re: (TheKingPin)
he said SS...
i don't recall my ss having that "rah rah" noise. i just notice that it has the harshest first gear downshift for an automatic!!! (its known fact that it does).. anyways, has it just happened? more details... really hard to tell what ur saying.
try keeping it in 1st at 20-30 mph and let it rev down. that'll be like 4k down to idle. see if it makes hte noise.. then do it again for 2nd gear at 40-50mph to idle.

Re: (azndng)
yea...thanks for the help guys. its a hard sound to explain. My best guess is it sounds like you can hear the cylinders firing, but then amplified and muffled through the (tranny?) or something. I'll try it in SS mode and see if I get the same results. And yes, the shifting (especially 1st gear downshift) sucks *****. I wish I didnt get an auto. I was tired of driving stick in traffic, so, I figured, honda+automatic= long time no problems. yea, not so much. Oh well. If it still does it in ss mode, id say it has to do with the tranny itself. its not slipping, or anything except shifting funny (normal prelude shifting) and this strange noise at low rpms. more to follow....

Re: (onefastrx7turbo)
Ok; its more like a gurgling sound, and it comes and goes as the engines revs down. once it gets to idle speed, it stops, but then comes back as you hit the gas and stays when you let off, until it reaches idle again. I dunno if its a normal noise that I can hear louder than other hondas or what. but, ive had two different people riding in my car ask me what the gurgling noise was.
