Sleeve in 1993 H23A
Does anyone know for SURE what material is used in the sleeves of a 1993 H23A engine? Some people say it's nikasil, other say it's aluminum... I don't know??? All I know is, it's not the regular stuff like on the B series engine.

Its not aluminum.. I don't know of any sleves that are... Its fiber reinforced, nikasil coated.. It can be honed, but not bored out.. If you wanna go with any pistons other than honda ones, you would have to resleave the cylinders with cast iron sleeves, which can be very expensive!

Re: Sleeve in 1993 H23A (Honda318dx)
Honda318dx, what if we use the same ring material as stock (cast iron?), would we then be able to use aftermarket pistons? Also, I think all honda sleeves have an outer layer of aluminum with a steel inner sleeve and in the H22a's case, some nikasomething coating..... I would think the ring material is what makes aftermarket pistons unuseable (at least from what I am told, about aftermarket pistons).
Just wondering, has anyone actually tried to use aftermarket pistons in a stock H22a block? I've done it in my ex-GSR.......

Im not really sure about using stock rings w/ aftermarket pistons... I am by far not an expert on metalics.. What I posted is what I understand to be correct.. Todd should know, hell he has aires (sp) pistons.. I'll make him chime in..

Not an actual stock ring, but the after market ring with stock material. There are quite a few types, like moly coated, chrome coated and plain cast iron or something. It is strange why Preludes supposedly can't use aftermarket pistons, bot the bore can be refinnished to install a larger oem piston (to a minute degree). I was just wondering if anybody tried installing aftermarket piston then had sealing problems. Thanks for your input, though...... Does Todd have the pistons in a stock block?

That is a very good question and an often debated one. One would think that with oem rings, aftermarket pistons *should* work. Trust me, that would make more more than happy, but, I think there must be some validity behind the claim. I do not know of anyone who has gambled and used this type of setup, although whoojong just had this done to his motor and should know soon. I am anxiously awaiting the results.

I am planning to put a piston rod set in a stock block, awaiting someone else's outcome. I hope mr whoo can let us know how things go.... What piston is he going to use?
