I was driving on the freeway in 5th gear normally and then i decide to downshift into 3rd to push the car a little bit. It goes into 3rd, but then as i shift into fourth it felt like nothing was there and then all of sudden i can't get into any gear. It just goes up and down not clicking into 3rd or 4th. Then i drive the rest of the way which was 30 miles in 3rd gear going 40 mph which was the longest 30 miles of my life....

I have had a problem with my 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears being mushy when i engage into those gears, but 2nd 4th, and reverse were fine. Now i am stuck in 3rd, but i can move the shifter up and down, ( it feels like nothing is there, no resistance whatsoever like it wasn'y connected to anything.

its weird and i am guessing its the shift assembly? or cables?? So everytime i start the car i am in 3rd and can't go anywhere, but be towed to a shop

Please help me with this, i need to know what is the main problem so i don't get ripped off by the shop. Any info will help.
