Default Tranny problem: No 4th, 5th, or reverse...

It all happened when one day my wife and I were going to run some errands. Like always she's running late so she rushed me. We get in the car and I started the car. Put it into 1st gear and slightly let go of clutch when it popped out of gear and the car jumped forward. It felt like the car stalled but the motor was running. I was like "WTF". I try to put it into 1st gear again and now it's even harder to put it into gear. I really have to pull towards me and force it until it goes into 1st gear. As I accelerated down the road I started to notice that 2nd gear was also really hard to get into. So I tried 3rd and that's fine. Time for 4th gear....it goes into 2nd and the revs jump. I take the shifter push all the way to the right and try to put it into 5th gear.......3rd gear.

I'm assuming somethings gone bad in the tranny because the shifter is good. Installation of the short shifter was correct. All nuts and bolts are tight, o-rings are good, bushings are perfect.

I can only use 2nd and 3rd gear now and sometimes if I try really hard I can get 1st gear. But no 4th, 5th, and reverse.

Anybody might know the probable cause? I would like to know my options here because at this point I am lost. I'm a noob when it comes to transmissions.

Did your troubles start right after the shifter install? Any problems before?

Sounds like in your rush you broke/bent a shifter fork.

The shifter felt kinda loose. When it's in gear the shifter looks like it's in neutral. I have a friend who has a 92 GSR and his feels tight and stiff. We noticed right away that something was not right with mines already. I got the transmission off. Might take it apart today and see if it is the shift forks. Wish me luck.
