precat O2 sensor....which plug in?
(I searched a little....no luck.)
I have recently done an H22 swap in my 98 SH, and converted everything over to OBD1....the problem is, there are 2 locations to plug in an O2 sensor (blue plug closer to exhaust, gray plug closer to passenger's side)....since i haven't used this car in so long i haven't had any sensors plugged in there in a while, so i'm not sure which one is which.
which one of these plugs (blue or gray) do i plug the precat O2 sensor into?
TIA!

The plug on my car is definitely gray, but yours could be different because its obd2.
The primary (pre-cat) o2 sensor should go into the main harness right by the oil filter, have a green wire, a black wire, and two white wires.

well, it's hard for me to get under my car and look at the wires that are going from the plug to the ECU right now....i'm sure somebody with a 5th gen knows which is which....
the reason i ask gets a little complicated-
- my vtec isn't engaging, and i suspect it is due to a CEL, however, I can't check for a CEL because for some reason my ECU's CEL won't function. (when i turn the key on, no CEL- on my car and a buddy's, so it's not the bulb.)
I know i need to put a good ECU in, but i'm trying to figure it out on my own for now, and that's an easy fix if i got it backwards. I don't have my jack with me this week, so if i'm going to crawl under the car to switch the plug, it's only going to be once, and i'm going to be sure which one it goes in.

i don't think a wiring diagram is going to tell me whether or not a plug is gray or blue....the plugs are in the same location, right next to one another, i just need to know which is for primary O2, and which is for secondary. Anyone who can look under their 5th gen could tell me in 2 seconds.
Or anybody got a pic of underneath their car that would show which plugs where?

once again, it's not really an option for me to crawl under my car right now just to see the wire colors going to a plug so i can get back on the computer and look it up on a wiring diagram to try to decipher which plug it is.....
it's much easier to just ask which plug it is. it's not a difficult question for anyone with a 5th gen who can look under their car, or has a pic of underneath their car, or who happens to know offhand. I figured this would be a thread that would last 10 minutes before i'd have an answer.

I'll bump it.
Thats about all I can contribute now....other than conjecture: IIRC the car's plug for the primary is a female and the car's plug for the secondary is a male, I think they did that on purpose so you can't confuse them...

really....??? i don't think i realized that the last time i was under the car....that means that if i did get it wrong, i'll have to rewire a different plug on the end of the O2......That sucks, i don't have one if i need it....
yea, i wired the plug end to an aftermarket bosch sensor. BTW, I did get a chance a little earlier to put the car up on a lift and both plugs under the car are male. I was going to switch the plug to see if it would run any different, but i decided not to since i had to be back at work soon and wasn't sure if it was going to make the car run funky (doubt it would), so i just left it in the blue plug.

that's exactly why i posted this thread, so i could possibly get a picture from someone of the bottom of someone's 5th gen so i can see the answer. I've searched, trust me...obviously not good enough, but i don't think the answer to this question is difficult.

ok, you guys made me ask.......
please.....pretty please with sugar on top....would someone jack their car up, put their life in peril, and crawl under their 5th gen and see which color plug the primary (closest to the header) O2 sensor is. I'd really appreciate it. I'm tempted to go crawl under my neighbor's 5th gen just to see, but it would probably freak him out.

the grey plug located underneath the evaporator core, on the passenger side is the primary o2 sensor
the one closer to the exhaust clipped on the heat shield is the secondary o2 sensor

thanks, i really appreciate it.....
i was able to crawl under the car the other day without lifting it up and swap the plug just to test it....i put from the blue plug to the gray, and noticed no difference, so i'm sure my problem lies elsewhere, but on a side note, i've been getting 8 mpg....
very expensive.
