need some help with my fuel pump
i think it is bad but is there a way to check without buying a new one? also is was told to check the relay for it? where is it located and how do you check it to see if it is good or causing a problem? i believe the fuel pump is the cause of my car troubles ( i own a 96 si ). then again, if my car has 126000 miles or so on it should i replace it anyway since i already have the access panel opened up and everything? thanks for the help...

In a Junkyard near you.
What factors are telling you that the fuel pump is (going) bad? That can help to tell if it really is or not. There isn't any need to replace it just because your in there if it isn't really bad because those are a little pricy.

Re: (cyco)
You haven't told us if you have spark or fuel yet have you? In my experiences fuel pumps usually cause poor performance (sputtering, hesitation) before the go. I've never had one just quit. When your car is turning over does it sound like it wants to start? I guess I could just ask if you have adjustable cam timing gears. Was it really hot the day it died? It sounds like a relay problem to me. If it happens to be the pump check the sponsors forum they have walbro pumps for $79.00 do it your self and thats CHEAP! Unplug your wires and turn the engine over to see if the plugs are wet, that could answer alot of questions right there.

Re: (BokChoy)
ok, it looks like i have no spark. i had no sputtering or hesitation prior to the car shutting off on me. i do not have adjustable timing gears and the lude stopped running around 5:30-6:00 am. if the plugs are wet that means it is getting fuel, correct? thanks to everyone for your help.
update: i unplugged the wires and turned the car over and the plugs are dry.

You ought to be able to hear if the pump is coming on by just turning the key to the on position, don't try and start it. Roll your windows up to make it quiet inside the car and try it, you should hear a slight hum for a couple of seconds.

Re: (SteveoBA8)
well i finally figured it out... there isn't any power going into the main relay... i think it was the blue/yellow one.. anyways... i took a wire and used a 15 amp fuse and put it in one of the slots that i wasn't using (fog lights i believe) anyways.. the car starts and runs fine now.. will this be okay?
