idle problem with a/c on
You just have to test the IACV itself. However, a lot of things can mess with your car's idle when it's under load (such as blasting the AC).
You may want to look into things like bad O2 sensors (may not throw CEL), air in coolant, dirty throttle body, even a bad ECU/butchered wiring if anyone has ever tampered with it.
Just search for posts regarding testing the IACV/Fast Idle Valve. There are even trouble shooting steps for bad idle in the Helm's manual.
Start with the easy stuff first, before assuming anything drastic. I had an idle issue that turned out to be caused by my timing being a tooth off - so that was expensive to fix.

in the integra forums its says that cleaning out the IACV could solve my problem and they have a DIY. on the integra the iacv is located on the back of the intake manifold. is it the same for prelude? also is it the same way to clean?

Is your car a 5th gen? The IACV is located on the front of the throttle body. See this link which will show you pictures of it's location:

Also, you should download the Helm's manual here which contains the trouble-shooting steps:

You'll need Chapter 11 for now (Idle Control System). You'll find the trouble shooting steps there.
Good luck...

Is there any chance it could be the alternator? I am experiencing the exact same issue, and the alternator was the first thing that came to mind. My wife's alternator is not fully charging her FD3S, and her car stumbles and dies at a full stop when she has her A/C on. However, it runs fine when cruising.
Yes it could possibly be the alternator, although most often I've seen the problem lie somewhere with the actual idle system in these cases.
However, you can rule out the alternator by having it tested somewhere - and it only takes minutes. Pepboys charges like $20 to test it, and Autozone and other places may do it for free.
