idle funny??/
I have a 95 stock H22 VTEC
It has quite a few miles, 150K I believe. The block/transmission was rebuilt. I have a funny idle that just won't go away. I have tried everything. The idle stays very consistent at 750rpm, but very rough. Other than that it seems to drive ok.
I have tried everything. 1) changed cap and rotor 2) changed plugs 3) compression tested 211 in all 4) changed air filter 5) cleaned IAC screen 6) changed timing belt/tensioner etc 7) new clutch/master+slave cylinder 8) checked for vacuum leakes 9) changed PVC 10) oil change/MTF change. 11) Used injector cleaner. Driving me crazy.
I was thinking it may be a fuel pump issue, but I doubt it, I dunno. Please help!!!!

After going through all those tune up, your car might need to adjust its timing idle. Mine is doing the same thing and I'm having it done next month. It's annoying, but it doesn't damage your engine, so don't worry about it.
Also, does it only do it when your engine is hot? Mine does.

Re: idle funny??/ (HeeroZ)
well it seems to be better when the idle is slightly higher, around 900 rpm... but is that good, I have though about playing with idle adjustment screw, but ddin't know if that was the best idea, figured it probably was another issue. Plus I did turn it counter clockwise, but didn't help much. don't know what to do....does anybody else have some good suggestions????????

Re: idle funny??/ (stockludesi)
I was thinking of going to get it fixed at a mechanic, but I'm worried they are gonna give me som BS answer. Like they think it's "this" and charge me for it, and then it doesn't fix crap, then they say it's that. Finally they say I don't know , you probably need a head job.

Re: idle funny??/ (ethan9273)
If your idle screw is turned out too much, the IAC cant counter enough for it. The Idel adjusting screw just makes a vaccum leak, if you turn it out too much the IAC(controls the leak)will try to adjust the idel back to normal, but cant, cause theres too much of a leak. Wallha, the idle goes up, and the idle goes down, and so on.

Re: idle funny??/ (Cottonwoodz)
I only adj the idle half a turn counter clockwise, no biggie. I am thinking possibly I need to replace the idle air control valve, is there a way I can make sure to see if it's faulty or not? I don't think it's cheap, like 200 bucks. Also I am planning to replace all of my bushings, yes ALL, how much would that cost labor wise, cause I know it's not that bad for the stock bushings itself. Any other advice would really help!!!!
thanks

if the idle air control valve is that little thing sitting to the right of the manifold in this picture, then I have one for sale.

Re: idle funny??/ (JDM LUDE)
there are two bolts that attach it to the IM. I can't tell from the pic, but that may be it. What kind of condition is it in??? What year? What do you want for it????
I mostly hear people with a jumping idle, but mine doesn't really jump, it's just rough, when I tap on the gas to around 900 rpm, it gets a lot better. so I don't know.

It is off of a 1994 prelude. It worked great when I took it off, and has been wrapped in bubble wrap in a garage. I have the whole intake manifold for sale on ebay for $48... I guess I'll see if anyone bids & then get back to you. If no one bids then I will part it out.

Re: idle funny??/ (JDM LUDE)
could it be the hot was valve issue? I tried disconnecting the wire to the IAC valve this weekend, and the engine died, so I know that the valve is working. Just to emphasize my idle does not jump or surge, it's just very rough. I have already tried the above, as well as a valve adjustment. What exactly does the hot wax vavle fix???
Any help is appreciated.

Re: idle funny??/ (ethan9273)
I would check and see if the ECU is storing a code in it that it's just not throwing a CEL for.
Just a thought. Although, I really think it's going to end up being vacuum related.

Re: idle funny??/ (Lone Luder)
does anyone know if poor or clogged injectors would affect the idle? My idle is constant but rough. It does not jump.
