how to replace valvecover thread
i was removing the valve cover on my h22 to replace the gasket etc. and as i removed the valve cover bolts one bolt would continuously spin.
how easy are the threads to replace? i was thinking about just breaking/cutting off the thread above the valvecover so i could get the VC off and then from there just replace the thread. but how do you replace/take off the thread? thanks

Re: how to replace valvecover thread
okey doke. and i guess next question. i finally got the cover off by cutting the bolt in half and there was dry crusty gunk on the top (panel??) above where the cams and rocker shafts are. i dont know the exact word for it but u have to remove it to get to the cams. (of course only name i dont know in the entire engine) the engine has over 150k on it and im wondering if thats normal or what? there isnt any sludge persay but on the top of the metal part theres just dry black crusty flakes... i changed the oil when i got the car and it was biddlyblack

Re: how to replace valvecover thread
Sounds like its been running with low oil so that the head wasn't getting much and with the heat of the engine the oil got baked on there. Keep an eye on the oil and change it more frequently, could also be from the PCV system not working, make sure the hose from the valve cover to the intake pipe is connected along with the one from the PCV valve to the intake manifold.
