H22 turns over but won't run
So I'm helping a friend with a '93 VTEC. A few weeks ago it started running rough and making a rotational slapping noise which appeared to come from the timing cover. We tore it down and found the timing belt loose. We followed the procedure to adjust the tension, put it all back together and got nothing. The auto-tensioner had failed so we installed a manual tensioner kit from an H23. We finally got everything back together and still have nothing. Timing marks are lined up perfectly and it is getting plenty of fuel. Upon the initial startup it fired a couple of times then proceeded to turn over. We have pulled to plugs to make sure they weren't soaked with fuel and we switched wires 1 and 4 to make sure we weren't 180 degrees off TDC. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help/ideas.

Sorry, I failed to mention that we've already conducted a compression test which revealed 180+ in all cylinders.

Did you do the compression test after you replaced the tensioner and timed the motor? Also, make absolutely sure your plug wires are on in the correct order.

Re: H22 turns over but won't run
I just realized that the compression test I did was before the initial rough running issue. I tested again today and it revealed 50,110,60, 80. Guess we're looking at bent valves?

Yep sounds like you got some bent valves there. For the price of OEM valves, springs, guides, retainers, seals, keepers, etc, you're better off just finding a used H22 head and swapping them out. They aren't hard to find, I know of a few for sale on a few different forums right now. Good luck.
