Default Engine problems. Please read!!

Okay here is the problem. My prelude died when I was just cruising last night. I wasn't boosing. The car lost power and sputtered to a stop.
The car starts up and idles just great. But it will only rev to about 3K and then fall back down to idle speed. When put into gear the motor doesn't have enough power to move the car and the rpms drop to nothing.

The plugs, rotor, distibutor cap and fuel filter have less than 10k miles on them. I checked them out throughly this morning and all look okay. Plugs look normal. I tried a new set of plug wires and it didn't help.

**The car drove okay this moring when the motor was cold, then the problem came back. ** I asked a mechanic at a honda dealer and they didn't know. I disabled all extra elctronics to help find the problem but nothing helped.

I don't have a CEL coming on at all. Please help!!

How is your clutch. Is it an aftermarket or stock. If your clutch is bad it wont have any power and you can sometimes smell it.

Ya, I would look into a fuel type problem. Once the motor warms the FI liens it back out. Also there may not be enough fuel to rev above 3K. What is causing it? Beats me!

hey, inline 4,
all these people say its the fuel pump or they said it could be the pump, they might be right. test your fuel pressure and VOLUME!!! it is important to test the volume of the fuel the pump is spitting because you can have a fuel pump that packs 50 psi of pressure but very little volume of fuel. have both of them checked, and maybe replace fuel filter if its been there for a long time. the problem could be somewhere else too.

what about a bad map/mass air flow/o2 sensor? you get a map sensor funked enough and your car will do some crazy stuff. try looking into those sensors.
