Cel code 23, knock sensor... possible for sensor to bust in half?
Well my check engine light turned on a few days ago after driving on the freeway for 30 mins or so, by the way I have a stock h23. The next day I drove it to work/friends house and back and for a couple of days there was no CEL, however I was not at freeway speed, just local streets.
Anyway, driving to school yesterday, after about 10 or so miles on the freeway after almost reaching my destination, the light comes on again.
Jumpered the 2P today and got CEL 23, knock sensor. I've heard it's possible that it can come loose or go bad so I got under the car and felt that it was loose. I tried to tighten it a little, without using any force, and the plastic peice popped off with the wiring connected to it.
Although this is not the actual picture, it's the black plastic half that came off:

Anyway after all that mumbo jumbo, is it possible for the plastic piece to come loose or would it have to bust off? I was able to put the plastic piece back on (I hope) and it didn't seem to be loose anymore. I reset the ecu, but haven't driven the car yet, hopefully the CEL doesn't come on again. But do you think I will need a new knock sensor?
thanks to anyone to actually read all that...

Same exact situation happened to me. I used some really good glue on the tip of the black part that busted off, and forced it back on. It's been fine since. Fix it or replace it soon, otherwise it'll retard your timing so damn bad and it's a pain to drive like that.
Shoot not what I wanted to hear, but I realize it probably needs to replaced. It had a pin in the plastic piece and a couple of other wires on the sides of the pin, but the pin just inserted into a hole in the metal and felt like it secured... how much longer should I be driving or not driving it in this condition?
i had same problem that i tried to fix with electrical tape. came apart within 2 weeks and bought a new sensor. makse sure u get a used one because a new one is way too expensive
I know, a new one is about $150, but I'm not sure I can trust a used one. I would really hate to have the same problem happen again, from what I hear this problem seems a little more common than I thought.
Is it hard to replace yourself, without removing the oil filter? It looks like it's going to be a pain in the ***, I can barely get my hand in there.

they snap really easy, it retards timing and adds fuel. i hated driving like that.. any honda knock will work, a obd2 will be a square plug and need a new connector saughtered on.

i had same exact problem, and YES u can trust a used one, it will work as long as it's not broken. i used one from a 95 gsr, all obd1 knock sensors are the same.
the knock sensor needs a 27mm socket just so u know if u are going to replace it urself

okay, gonna go with an obd1 sensor (circle plug), that way I can just plug it into the wire without any soldering. And as far as replacing it myself, I assume a 27mm deep socket would be needed. Is it possible to replace the sensor from the bottom without removing the oil filter?
