Yes before everyone gets their flame stick out I have read the FAQ's and found Mgags Idle Bounce post most entertaining. It was a good write-up I just have a question or two about bleeding the coolant. I hope all can take some time to awnser my concerns.

1. How long would it take to bleed the coolant.

2. What happens if you opened the bleeder valve while the was hot?

I attempted it earlier today, and was 100 percent sure what I was doing....

So I let the car get hot then I opened the bleeder valve up and it sprayed at first then died down real quick. The damn thing ran nearly 6 mins without spraying. So I figured it was done, I came in and checked mgags faqs again, and read that you are supposed to open the bleader valve when its cold.

Could I have hurt my car when doing this. Im gonna go out in like half an hour and do it again.

 

1. It could take a while, but the best thing to do is bleed it until you see a steady stream of coolant with no bubbles, then the next day after things have settled bleed it again and try to get more air out.

2. If you open it when it's hot you're going to get shot with steam, haha. Air will come out but not in a friendly way.

You did not do any damage to your car by doing that...I used to have to do that to our Chevy Lumina because it would get tons of air in there when the head gasket was bad.

 

Why does the coolant need to be cold. Does it expand when it gets hot?

And yeah I got shot with the stream....

Yeah, when it gets hot it becomes pressurized and it wants to become steam and expand like crazy. Like a boiling pot of water on the stove wanting to blow the lid off...

 

Well that was annoying, I just let the car idol for what must of been 30 mins. Then I got impatient and started squeezing the hoses a little, and there was a time, when I could completely squeeze the hose tight so nothing could get through and there would be no coolant coming out of the bleeder valve at all.

Not like a water gun, just a steady little overflow like you said. Just make sure there's not any air coming out...

 

Shoot I was standing around waiting for the water gun. I think I may have emptied a good portion of the coolant out. Time to do it again. This one is a pain the ***, bleeding the clutch was easy.
