4th gen engine temp.
This morning I started my car and headed to work. The engine temp slowly got up to the middle, optimal range (3 bars) and stayed there for about 30 minutes. Then one bar drops off (down to 2 bars) signifying that the engine is now running cooler. It stayed this way for the remaining 15 minutes to work with the engine staying mostly around 3k RPMs at about 60 mph or so. Any ideas why it would run a little cold? Ran fine, no problems.... 30F outside.
I'm thinking my engine would still run at normal temperature... tell me if i'm wrong, i've never noticed my engine running colder in another car during the winter. HOwever, i've never had a digital readout for engine temp. either, its always been a needle, so I have no idea how much temp. difference that largest digital block represents.
Well, from what i hear from other sources, 4th gen temp. gauges aren't the most accurate, i'm guessing b/c of the digital aspect..... but it seems this is normal and within safe conditions....
in that cold of weather you should be fine running a little lower, just watch out when you start running hot. Then come back and worry. Brrr... 30 is cold, it was 23 out here today.
