1990 si.....b21
im new to the ludes, so bear with me.
why does the 2.0si get specified and the 2.1 is just the si in my owners manual? i have the b21. anyone know anthing about them? ive been searching in the prelude section and i cant find anything on the 90 or the b21. ive heard its junk. mine has 197xxx miles on it and burns a lot of oil....not good.any suggestions on anything i can do to this car would be great. thanks

Re: 1990 si.....b21 (rallytalon)
the sleeves are just garbage. its got a 84mm sleeve and a 95mm crank i believe. i just picked one up the other day just the bare block tho.

the sleeves do indeed cause the oil to burn but they are not the culprit....
the 3rd gen prelude b21a was the second engien to come with the carbon meshed cylinder walls. (the nsx being the first)
the problem is that honda did not upgrade the rings to moly coated rings. they used the same ring design that was on the b20a series of motors.
if you want to fix the problem... get a set of moly coated rings (dont need to get oversized ones really) and hone the walls. that will fix your problem. this info comes per the honda engineering database. ive seen it done and it is the correct fix for the oil burning issues.
oh and one other note> you can do a tear down without removing the block.
you must pull the head and drop the pan and crank. then you can push the pistons through and replace the rings. then pushing the pistons down from the top to reinstall. with the block still in the car.
One other option of course is the jdm b20a engine swap. it may be more affordable for you to go this route if you do not have the tools of knowledge to go the previously stated route.
Good Luck-

Re: (Not_Rice4ws)
thanks for the info, but unfortunatly i dont have the tools to do it....engine swap would be feasable tho, but today some mechanic told me that the only engine that can replace my 90' b21 is another b21 from 90' or 91'....is that true??? if not, what else can go in there...without loosing power, as the b21 has quite a bit of snot (that and the really short gear box)

Re: (AlienKrOZ)
exactly what alien said. you need to swap your intake and exhaust manifolds from your b21 to your b20. other then that its a direct swap and the only good plausible one if you dont have alot of mechanical knowledge. if your mechanic doesnt know enough about ordering a b20a jdm 3RD GENERATION motor (not a 2nd gen b20a or a crv b20z motor.....) for the swap your car needs, then call around and find a new mechanic taht does. or have him look into it more. or tell him what is waht and how it needs to be done.
there is a list of engine importers on http://www.preludepower.com under the 3rd generation section (stickied).
you have all the info you need here in these last 2 posts.
