water damage.....help
the other day it rained alot when i was at work. when i came outside my car looked like it was drowning. i had water up to the dash inside the car. i had a tow truck pull it out. it would start and id have to rev it to make it stay on. when i finally got it to idle it was horrible and i could smell gas. i left it to idle and went back to work. when i came back, like 5 mins, it was off and hasnt started since then. i took out the ecu and drained the water out of it. i think the connections under dash have water in them still so im going to let it sit another day. when i turn the key ti have power and everthing looks good but when i try to turn it on it just clicks out. the light in the ecu still turns on but it doesnt flash, it just stays on.this happened saturday. car is 89 stdhb.
also with key in the position where the radio is on theres a buzzing every now and then that wasnt there b4. i heard this noise b4 on a mazda millenia that had been in a flood. i need to know what to do/it could be? i want to bring it home tomorrow cuz its still at work.
also i did try to start it when it was in the water and it started a few times after it came out but it would keep shutting off after a minute or so

Re: water damage.....help (89a6T)
I suspect that you have a fried ECU. If you do not have the usual MAIN Relay and Check light/fuel pump priming then the electrics are the issue. Could be the harness since part of it was under water. You really need to dry everything out completely. I will also suggest that this could be an insurance claim for water damage (assuming you have Comprehensive). A dealer will charge a good bit to fix this.
NO-you do not have water in the oil pan unless the engine was submerged.

Well one thing is for sure is that you more than likely have a fried ECU. When the light stays lit solid that is usually the code for a fried ECU. BUT it might be doing that just because everything is wet I would dry everything off check all your fuses and relays and then find a good ecu and try that. Oh and also make sure your distributor is dry cause if it isnt it will run like crap or not run at all.

What he means by that is can you hear the main relay clicking at all? Is there a check engine light on in the dash? And last do you hear the fuel pump kick on at all?

yup check to see if u have spark, and fuel.. if u do then its not the main relay or ECU.. if you don't the main relay and ECU should be replaced.. i doubt anything else is the problem.. i had my hatch get flood out and nothing happened.. but then again i didn't try to start it in water that was a BIG mistake. Most likely if there was water in the ECU it's fried.. i'd get a new one just in case.. cuz the connections are gonna start to rust out.. even if it works now it proably won't after a few months.. i just happen to have a 89std ECU if u want it.. 40 bucks shipped

Re: (89a6T)
The Main relay and Starter relay are located on the side panel on the Driver's side of the car just above the Hood release. You get to them by taking the coin holder out. Putting a wrench in there is another story. If your fuse panel is fried-let me know, I have one available-it is a plug in box. You may also have fried the ICU control module (mounted on the back of the Fuse panel) if the fuse box was under water-that can be had from a yard.
BTW-If you need a PM6 ECU give me a shout.
(Mods: I have run ad's in the Classifieds.)

are u saying that the motor was submerged also? cause that would be a problem if u started it like that.

the water was right below the distributor.
half the problem is now fixed, i changed the ecu and now it turns over but doesnt start. i can smell gas so im guessing the fuel pump is str8. i also changed the main relay. the ecu gives me 19 blinks......im gonna search but if anybody knows what 19 is let me know.

0 - Faulty ECU
1 - Oxygen Content
3 - Manifold Absolute Pressure
4 - Crank Angle
5 - Manifold Absolute Pressure
6 - Coolent Temperature
7 - Throttle Angle
8 - TDC Position
9 - #1 Cyl. Position (HF and Si Models)
10 - Intake Air Temperature
12 - Exhaust and Gas Recirculation System
13 - Atmospheric Pressure
14 - Electric Air Control
15 - Ignition Output Signal
16 - Fuel Injector
17 - Vehicle Speed Sensor
19 - Lock-up Control Solenoid Valve
20 - Electric Load
ok so what is lock-up control solenoid valve? i will search but a simplified explanation would be nice cuz im not a mechanic

hope you get it running.
