Using 10w30 SL SJ motor oil in transmission, not SE or SF as honda recommends...
I want to change the oil in my transmission. (1990 CRX Si) I know my manual says SE or SF grade oil, but I couldn't find any. Will "API Service SL, SJ or ILSAC GF-3" SAE 10W30 motor oil work for me? I suppose my driving isn't all that extreme, and I don't shift real hard, so I think this might be ok. I don't want to be impared, though. I know Honda or Redline MTF is what to get, but I know this is an alternative. (supertech walmart brand...I figured I didn't need terrific lubrication and wanted some friction in my tranny)
Will it work?
I think I'll try it anyway...for ~$2 I'm not out much, unless someone here says something.
Thanks, Kev

you'll be fine, i'm sure you wont even be able to find SF oil anymore.. SL is pretty much the highest grade oil at the moment

the manual says that because thats the highest grade oil available at the time.......
current oils are much higher grade than what was available 10 years ago
