Transmission trouble
When my 91, 1.5 civic is revved or ideling in neutral, especially when cold, there is a loose metallic rattling noise somewhere under the hood. This isn't quite as apparent when the engine has been running a while and disappears when the clutch is pushed in.
Also, no matter how warm the engine is there's a grinding noise when I accelerate & cruise along. It's a little worse in the first 3 gears. Like the rattling noise, the grinding noise disappears when pressing the clutch in, any ideas?
I'm thinking maybe bearings, or tranny trouble?
Thanks

I agree with snowseeker, this bearing is cheap and easy to replace too. Although there is a chance it's your clutch release bearing, it's more than likely to be your input shaft.

Transmission swap...
I'm not much of a mechanic myself, would it be more cost effective
and feisable for me to put a tranmission from a 90 integra (engine type B18A) into my 1.5, and get someone to change the whole thing?
How much labour time would replacing the input shaft bearing take the average mechanic (roughly) ?
thanks
