Code 20 ELD (Electric load detector)
My '88 crx si keeps throwing this code. Ive read that its the red/green wire in the fuse box under the hood. Does this mean that I need a new fuse box or can this be fixed?

Does this code have anything to do with why I keep blowing fuse #14 (alternator solenoid valve)? Because I have to run a 25amp fuse instead of the stock 10amp.

Don't put higher than rated fuses in your car dude damn, hasn't anyone ever told you that? Fix the car! Stop being ghetto, obviously there's a short somewhere

Thats the stupidest thing you could have done. The fuse is the weakest link in a circuit. By putting a higher rating fuse in you just made an electrical component or the wiring itself the weakest link... Or is it the owner? Put the 10A back in and fix the problem. Or be prepared to spend more money... Or buy a new car and whatever else burns up-worst case scenario.

Re: Code 20 ELD (Electric load detector)
I found out why the fuse kept blowin. It was because the voltage regulator in the alternator took a crap. Got that replaced and the 10amp fuse doesnt blow anymore. Going to check the eld and see what turns up. I also really had no choice with the higher fuse had to work. The voltage regulator caused a spike everytime I started the car but didnt run at the higher amperage. Got that fixed.

Re: Code 20 ELD (Electric load detector)
Just tested the eld and step #6 says 2volts and it tested at 11.1volts. Time for a new fuse box. Any suggestions as far replacing this unit if I can get it new or do I need to find it at PAP or similar?

Re: Code 20 ELD (Electric load detector)
not trying to jack a thread here, but I have this code as well in my 1989 sedan automatic, but it throws it in tandem with a code 1, which is o2 sensor. I just replaced the o2 with a brand new one, and switched underhood fuse box as well, which I just tested according to the above diagram, and it tested perfectly. Any ideas? I checked fuse #14 in the fuse block as well, and it's a 10 amp fuse and looks good. Could it may be the alternator is bad? The shift solenoid may need to be replaced, as it makes an odd noise, usually when first started in the morning, and doesn't shift exactly right either. Could this have any effect on the code throwing? thanks for the help.

theyre super cheap and easy to change, shouldnt take you more than 15 minutes tops

Re: Code 20 ELD (Electric load detector)
this is perfect, exactly what my car's doing. but my question is what would cause the ELD to fail? also I unplugged that main ELD harness plug and noticed that the plug itself wasn't in great looking condition (male and female ends both).

ok i keep getting a ELD code and im not getting any prime from my fuel pump, when i crank it doesnt turn but acts as it wants to and just backfires. also after an hr or so of messing around under the hood my battery got drained is this all from the ELD???? and before i go an replace my fuel pump i wanted to know do i replace that....? or do i have to check the wires for the ELD, and if it is the ELD then how do i go of replacing???
i have a 90 ef si btw..
