thnk u coupej1. u could spend have of what a b-series swap cost and go the exact same speen. yes u wont be able to make 160 hp stock but it really comes down to the drivers preference. the only thing that kept me from a b-series whas heving to beat my frame rail in for the alternator to clear.

the gf and I run D series...
...stock, since they're just drivers. Both are LX sedans with the slushbox... mine is a 90 and hers is a 97.

Re: (JDMatt3)
I would have to say the d16a6. The block is better (has steal main caps), and the head flows better than the non-vtec head flows a little better than the vtec. It used to be that non-vtec performance cams were hard to find, but now you can get whatever you want from Bisimoto. Build one with some p29's, a good valve job, a Bisi cam, an si trans with a 4.70 or 4.90 final, and you will have one quick EF.

^ Good information on All Motor D's here
I have a D16A6 with a Exospeed cam and portwork, SK2 IM, 11.5 compression, Bisi header, full 2.25 exhaust(w/ cat) in a 90 hatch. Hit 134whp on the dyno without the Bisi Header running a DC 4-1. It is a blast to drive and is exactly what I wanted. Others might want different; please remember to each their own.

What makes you say that? I have done some research and thats what my opinion is based on. The y8 head has a good combustion chamber (pent roof) that allows for more quench, but the ports are not very good. The z6 and the a6 head share a similar port and combustion chamber design (open) with the exception of the exhaust valve spacing on the z6 to make room for the vtec rocker arm, which in my opinion add unneeded valvetrain mass. Thats why I like the a6.
