Reset the ECU to clear the code.

Does it return?

Yes, I seen that the coolant sensor wire was very brittle so I got another connector from the junk yard and a new coolant temp sensor from work and installed both today after installing both I pulled both negative and positive battery cables and held them together for a few minutes to reset the ecm after hooking everything back together and firing it up the cel light instantly came one again I noticed also this morning it took a few cranks for it to turn over , more than normal and the idle was a bit rough but seem to run good after a few minutes after fire up...and my problem didn’t start till yesterday evening

Remove hood Hazard fuse for 5 minutes.

If code 6 returns, then Ohm test the ECT sensor.

the coolant temp sensor that gives you a code 6 is a 2-wire sensor on the end of the head, below the distributor, with RED with WHITE stripe and GREEN with WHITE stripe wires -
sounds like you may have been confusing the temp gauge sending unit, which has a 1-wire connector (YELLOW with GREEN stripe), with the TW sensor for the ECU

Just adding to this^ information -- The Red/Wht wire should read ~5V and the Grn/Wht wire should read continuity to body ground using a multimeter.
