You guys think an EG is a good base for a track car?
I'm in the position weather or not to spend money on this car!
I've already taken it to the track and I'm pretty happy with the way it is!
I know for a fact that the chassis is soo soft compared to an ITR. I mean, with a roll cage, more strut bars, stiffer bushings etc... it would be better right? Cause i know when i start spending money on it! i can't go back and after the end of the day.. it's just a civic!
I mean.. i have foxtel at home and speed vision is on sometimes.. the yellow EG is pretty damn quick!
Just need to know if the EG is a good platform to work on! I mean, i don't know how hardcore the Spoon EG was compared to the EK. For sure they would talk more of the EK because its a newer car.
HELP!

yeah, it's nice and light, and reacts well to suspension mods.
older RX-7s make great track cars as well.

I guess...
but what i really want to know...
If you had all 3 cars.. EG, EK and DC2...
All with the same power, suspension, brakes, tyres, cage, bars etc....
which car would be quicker? EG? because it's lighter? Cause i know the chassis are very similar in terms of geometry.

a swapped EG easily. the suspension geometry among all three of the above cars are IDENTICAL honda hasn't changed this in over 10years..except w/ the 02 models. The EG can be made to handle better, you just need to give it ample power to be competetive.
In the speed vision TC challange you have ITRs that have over 50k invested in parts, and theory. they win...BUT you have a 12k car ala roger foo that is competetive right there with them....given the same budget he would no doubt surpass them.

I bought a bushing kit for my EG from Energy Suspension.
things not included are the trailing arm bushings... there may be more not included, but there are a LOT of bushings here to install... yay!
yah, go EG go!

Re: You guys think an EG is a good base for a track car? (DragIIcivic)
I can't agree with this.
I've seen Options racing video with a modded DC2 Type R (mostly bolt ons) and an EG6 with B18C SpecR. On the 0-400 test (Tsuchiya driving EG6) the EG6 won by a bit (can't remember the figures) obviously from power to weight advantage.
But on the track stint, the best lap from the DC2 was higher than the EG6. I think it was something to do with the longer wheelbase or the weight distribution.
Also the suspension on the EK hatchbacks is not identical to the DC2s. I believe the lower control arms mount to the rear shocks via a fork vs. the more durable "eye" as used in the DC2R and EG6. You'll find Integra GSR/VTi-Rs also have the same suspension setup as the EK generation.
I don't know about the EK9 though! I believe they performed an upgrade over the EK4 suspension, but I guess overall it's a similar double-wishbone platform.

Well, I would agree a ITR would be more hardcore....
The EG6 and DC2 spec R or any integra share the same wheel base. It must be the weight distribution.
Did the EG6 in the video have suspension and brake upgrades? or just the engine?

Although I'm probably not the most qualified to answer this, you can take my opinion for whatever it's worth. I suspect that the DC2/EG6 platfrom is better than the EK first off. No other way to explain how the DC2 stuck around for so dern long. I think the main question is between the DC2 and EG6 since the more desirable "R" parts won't fit on much of the EK (gotta forsee parts swapping here to get around the rules as much as possible).
The EG6 is obviously a cheaper platform to work off of. I do think however overall weight and weight distribution has a lot to do with how these guys run on the track. DC2 always seemed more stable to me, dunno if that is actually true or not, but as similiar as they are platform wise they seem to handle very differently.
Also what kind of track events are you taking your car to? What types of classes are you planning on running in, what type of competition you are looking at all needs to be factored in. And of course driving skill is going to account for most of your success regardless of what platform you choose.

Re: You guys think an EG is a good base for a track car? (Mugen_R)
Yeah I think it would've had the brakes upgraded too, for both cars but in the end I guess Best Motoring/Hot Version aren't conclusive since they don't do more than a few laps.
Btw, I believe the EG6 and DC2R have similar suspension setups ("eye" mounting for shocks via the different rear lower control arms) but regular DC2s, EGs and EKs (except maybe EK9? not sure) have the fork setup.
But the question about the sedan one is interesting.... hehehehe....

Speculation at best. However, let's not forget the extra 250lbs the realtime Rs have to run and the TB plate that chokes how much air gets into the motor. If the Rs were allowed to run with no added weight or power restrictors, they'd run away at every event, period.

Spoon themselves have said the EG6 hb, is a better platform than the ITR.

Work on suspension first.. And if you ever wanna road race, make sure to group a rulebook.. Check out http://www.honda-challenge.com Keep the motor stock and go run in H4 class after you get you licence.. Its the cheap way to go.. And a stock motor is cheap, reliable, and very fast!
I don't know weather your on the east coast or not..
