well, it would be a good idea if you went all out, y5 harness, ecu, head, intake manifold, and wired it all up right w/ the egr system and wideband, if not dont waste your time.

how bout switching to OBD1.
can you eliminate the egr?
use a y8 intake mani?
what ecu?

cheap set up.
mild port polish.
more power.
gooood economy.

well, what is your goal for the swap??? if you want more power you need to keep all those thing, the wideband o2 and the P2N ecu, otherwise you wasted your time because you wont run the vtec-e.
the only way around it is going obd1, running whatever intake manifold you want with a chipped ecu and vtec crossover low, but it will take dyno tuning by someone that knows something about vtec-e to get any kind of gain in MPG or power.
basically, what i would do is just do a Y8 headswap, if you want more power. if you want better MPG grab an EG cx/vx tranny.

Re: y7/y5 mini-me? (schardbody)
OK...I want it all...hows that for a goal.
iwant to swap into a 92 vx. I have a vx tranny(looong gears) with a vx motor(92hp).
i wanna swap out the vx tranny for an ex/si. conservative driving should yield econo benefits, but give me the option of more power on command.
i obviously also have the vx ecu. it has a low vtec crossover point...like 2700-3000. this would engage the y5 earlier.
anyone tried to run a y5 with a vx ecu? air/fuel mix???
can i just block off the egr and pretend it doesnt exist?
can i just throw the y5 in and call it obd1 or what else needs to be converted?

i did something similar. i had a 92 vx, stock when i bought it.
used a chipped p05 made my low load vtec crossover at 3000rpm, and high load crossover at 2200rpm. did away with the o2 all together (open loop), and added a hybrid tranny (basically an ex/si tranny).
now the whole reason i did this is because my wideband o2 was bad, after buying 2 bad ones (for not cheap used even) i decided it would be cheaper to convert to no o2. (i did do it using a 1 wire o2 for awhile just for kicks.
this is how my MPG went from when i got it to when i sold it.
stock w/ bad o2 - 26mpg (i know hard to believe)
blocked off egr - 26-28mpg (not disconnected from vacuum, blocked off completely.
first attempt at conversion w/ crappy (no tune) just a basemap i came up with) LOTS MORE POWER, especially midrange. 30-32mpg. this is with the 1 wire o2 hooked up and egr still bypassed with stock everything else.
i played with the fuel and timing table for a while, as well as ALOT of differant vtec crossover points (i have reburnable chips and a burner with alot of extra time on my hands at this point) ended up getting it up over 40mpg and ALOT better throttle response than stock, and a tad more midrange power (topend power on a Z1 isnt worth talking about) but still 40mpg with a vx tranny is crappy.
i was satified at this point with the MPG (even though it sucked for a vx, it was alot better than what i started with), so i decided to get an ex/si tranny, and a good friend of mine, andrew "bense" who im surpriced hasnt entered this thread yet (the Y5 ninja), hooked me up with a tranny. after letting it sit for a few months i decided to sell it, right after selling it i decided i wanted another, and he said well, lets just build your tranny, so one sunday me him and another friend made a day of it. and along went a stage 3 6puck clutch as well. NEVER RESURFACED THE FLYWHEEL DOH......
the car RIPPED (to be a vx) afterwards, the clutch was just unbearable (flywheel warped like crazy, chattered so bad it would almost throw the headlights off the car. the car was now getting around 37-39mpg (probably would have been better but the new found gearing made it hard to stay out the throttle) so i sold my hatch. now im in the market for another....
moral of the story, yes, experimenting can be good, and pionnering is fun, but sometimes its better to just start with something that will be more beneficial. i have no regrets (besides the clutch/flywheel deal).
oh, and i wanna say thanks to: bense, relic1, and http://www.pgmfi.org for all the help i had doing this conversion.
hope this helps you somehow.
