No way, it's damn close. He has a d16z6.
It may be that you have not hit the rev limiter. Don't they redline at 7500? So ~7800 rev limiter and add in a few hundred rpm for cluster error.

oh than yeah, no 9000 for you, try 8000 like mentioned above and see what happens, or like i said OPEN THE DAMN ECU and see if its chipped.

It's most likely off.
I don't know as for the majority of Hondas/Acuras but from what I've seen 5th generation civics they're known for not having accurate tachs.
The only way to get an accurate tach is to buy an aftermarket one from sunpro or something. The only problem with that is that that is total rice IMO if you already have a tach, but a friend of mine was using an aftermarket 5" at the same time as he had an EX cluster (DX car, the ricer before he bought it installed a 5" tach AND an EX cluster ) - they were reading two different readings - pretty accurate low, but as RPM went higher the jump became further apart.
Anyway. 8000 though, that's not normal.
Can I ask why you're pushing a Z6 to 8000 RPM?
Figure it this way, I don't feel like digging up some .bin files on the Z6 but I think stock its fuel cut is like 7.5 - I don't think it's 7.2 like the tach's redline.
If that's the case and ur reading 500 RPM off it's very easy to get that reading.
Although I'm not sure - it could be chipped.
What's your best bet? Your best bet is to not push it that hard because the motor isn't made to handle that high of an RPM for a long period of time. I don't even think the motor makes that much power that high.
Maybe some D-series guru can come in here and back up or disprove what I'm saying but as far as natural aspiration goes I don't even think the Z6 makes power at 8k on stock internals, very impractical and unhealthy to bring it up that high.

Possibly, I've never dealt with a half-*** system like that.
