window problems, need opinion
My freind wanted me to fix his windows. He owns a 96 civic 4 dr. Not sure what model. Well here is the scoop.
The passenger side and the rear passenger side windows work fine. The driver side and the rear driver side don't work. From the driver side, you can control the rear passenger side, but nothing else. My question is, should I just try to hard wire it, it seems to me it might be a wiring problem. Not 100% sure.
Doing a little investigation on it, I took the rear passenger side switch and plugged it into the rear driver side switch. The window went down, but would not come back up. Don't know wtf is going on. Any suggestions.
On sunday, I am going to go over there with some wire( hook it to positive, hook other wire to ground) and try to see if the motor is bad. Please, need help. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, sorry for the long post, but I am trying to get all the details so maybe I can get a quiker response.

I haven't really messed with power windows but sounds to me like you got bad relays or controller or something

I THINK in the driver's side door panel there is a "brain" for the power windows. That's what I would try replacing first.

Dickcheese? That's original! Would you like that as your title? I was only trying to bring a little humor, sorry that you don't have a sense of humor.

With the info you've provided I would bet that the front left master switch is bad. But don't go out and buy a new one until your sure thats the problem. No returns or refunds on electrical items. You can use a 12volt battery out of a drill and two wires and check the window motor(s) if you want. If you have a battery charger you can sometimes check the switch.... use at your own risk. Here's how I do it at work. Connect two wires with rivets on one side (used for probing the switch) and the other to the charger and set the charger a little bit higher than normal. With the window switch connected looking at the bottom of it start poking the rivets into the area where the wire plugs up. A wiring diagram of the switch could come in handy. But I never use em

Honda window switches are famous for this.
If you have a small flathead screwdriver, carefully take the switch apart and use some good contact cleaner on the spring metal tab inside the switch. More than likely, the contacts have gotten corroded with use. (That's why it is only the driver's side, as this is most likely used more often than a passenger side window.)
It takes 10 minutes to repair once you have the switch out, so maybe 30 minutes total time from start to finish.

Re: window problems, need opinion
Thanks you guys, H-T is the best, I will let you know how everything goes tommorrow. I will check to make sure all the power window motors work first, if they do, I will take apart the switches and see if I cant clean them. Thanks again.
