Whining noise coming from engine bay when I rev.
When I blip the throttle I get a whining/whistling noise. Whether the clutch is in or out, in gear accelerating, or stopped, it doesn't matter. If I rev it really high I get a screech that sounds like a belt slipping on me. I noticed yesterday that first gear is starting to grind when the engine is cold, it's possible that the two are related. Part of me wonders if it's the throwout bearing, but wouldn't that only whine when the clutch was to the floor?

Sounds like it it may be the timing belt, but if it were tranny related, it would only whine (gears) if you were terribly low on trans fluid.
As for it being the throwout bearing, ive never heard of it being that before, but you never know.

if it was throwout bearing youd only hear when your accelerating through the beginning of gears (usually 1st, 2nd, sometimes 3rd) or gear braking. wont hear while in neutral..im going through that a second time now..its such an annoying sound.
have you changed timing belt yet??

Yes, timing belt has roughly 5-6k on it...
My dad and I ended up changing it, and I did the water pump and timing as well as the tensioner.
****.
Any other bearings or anything else it could be?

May be a wheel(s) for the A/C or P/S pump, mine used to have a whine to it. Lil bit of grease and its silent now.

I'm praying it's powersteering. I want to delete it (and do it right) so bad.
Sounds like I have an F'n mini vortech under the hood. I'll go blip it and listen under the engine bay and see if I can find out where it's coming from.
I really really want to do a B18B swap, if it's something major maybe it's time to say goodbye to the D16...

Ok .Does the noise go away when you hold the clutch in but don't put any gears? If so its probably your ISB(Input shaft bearing)I know someone will probably confirm this

Just now I popped the hood and cranked it in neutral, and blipped it from underneath the hood, and I couldn't hear anything. From inside the car I couldn't hear anything when I reved with the clutch in or out in gear or not. I've got class here in about 20 min, so I'll see if it does it while in gear acceling. Strange, I know it was doing it last night. The cooler weather is probably causing it.

i have the same exact problem, and i believe its the A/C belt being loose , because when the A/C is off it just makes the whining noise like you mentioned, and when i turn the A/C on it gets the squeek/chriping noise you mentinoed.
97Ej6mike what did you say about greasing the A/C P/S pumps?

Re: (shadohconspiracy)
lol it definitely doesnt sound like theres a big turbo..but anyway..if only happens while accelerating its the throwout bearing..if not, then it could be a belt..whether its new or worn out

Well used to it'd do it when I was stopped out of gear clutch in or out. Today it won't do it, I'm back from class and no weirds.
I'll check it tonight when it cools off. I did notice a bit of gear clash in first leaving.
It's almost like the cooler weather is causing it.
