I went to a guy who had a bunch of Honda parts for a muffler and I ended up buying a transmission as well he said that it was a p20 and that it would provide more power on the low end but I'm trying to figure out what it came out of let me know if you guys have any insight

It's an s20

Ex/Si transmission. Better gearing than the S40.

The s20 code only tells you that it’s 92-95 year specific. There should be a label on the trans that says a0000 or b0000. The A is a dx and the b is ex

S20 92-95 aluminum shift forks (usually broken)
S40 96-00 steel shift forks

A000 is cx, vx, dx, lx. 35mm diff bearing
B000 is ex, si 40mm diff bearing

This code is stamped near the passenger axle output on the case.

A000 Small bearing case.

B000 Big bearing case.

Not from the factory. If you look through either axle opening toward the opposite axle opening and you can see a 1/2" diameter metal rod crossing through the middle of the axle passage way... it is NOT an LSD transmission.

You know? The Ds are more limited by gear ratios than the actual motors. My B000 is still pretty tall geared for a motor that needs rpms to move, not a lot of leverage with that 4.25ish final.

so it's an s20 b000, what do you mean its "tall geared"?
one thing I have noticed is that in the transmission currently in my car has no power in the high gears and high rpms, what does that mean?

Probably means it’s a stock D series and is weak as a baby trying to push a car uphill. But the baby might have more power than a stock D series.

The B000 has the sporty gears, they are shorter geared, numerically higher. Car will accelerate more quickly w B000

My favorite engine/trans combo so far was an hx with a jdm s20 transmission. It had (for a honda) low end torque and was always in the lean burn target rpms. It also made the car feel fast like an ex when I needed to floor it. It would also get better fuel economy around town
