The S4C is for the Si with a B16.
The EX tranny is a S40....but no serial number differences for a DX tranny vs. a EX. The EX has a different 2nd and 3rd gear and a different final drive ratio. Does a tranny have a vin plate on it also? If if does...look for a EJ8 in the vin

it was an s40 and the vin plate said ej8 like 3-4 digits in from the left.. so i guess i got what i paid for! thanks for all the help
