Icon2 What kind of grease under steering rack boots?

About to replace the boots on the manual steering rack I just bought before I put it on the car.. So what kind of grease do I need to use for the swivel part (sorry, don't know what its called) underneath the boots? Any help is appreciated.

i dont think there should be any grease in there. just clean it up really good, and make sure your inner tie rods dont have any play.

I agree with checking the inner tie rods for play, but do not leave them dry. It is always a good idea to put grease around the inner tie rod "ball and socket" area. Multi purpose grease is fine.

are you sure your steering rack isnt leaking P.S. fluid? there should be no wetness inside the boots.

well, its obviously not a new rack if the boot is ripped. probably a junkyard one.....so yes, a used rack can be leaking.

You're probably right that it's not a new rack, but if you would read the first post you will find that the OP is installing a manual rack. It's hard for a manual rack to leak power steering fluid.

OP, as mentioned, multi-purpose grease is ideal.
