Loose Steering and Wander
ok i have a '92 honda civic LX with 130k
The car wanders at highway speeds and the steering feels loose. so i jacked up each side of the car and put my hand at 3 and 9 and there was quite a bit of play. i also looked at the boots on the outer tie rods and they were shot. so i replaced the outer tie rod ends on both sides.
Ok, now i still have the same symptoms as before: loose steering, wander at highway speeds, and play in the tires from left to right.
Now do i have to replace the whole steering gearbox or just the inner tie rods or what?
How can i find out for sure whats wrong?

I have the same issue. You can adjust the rack to take out some slop. If you have a helms it tells you how to do it.
I don't have a wrench big enough to get on that huge nut. And a socket won't fit in there. It is on my list of stuff to fix this winter.
