What head is this?
OK, I bought this car used. It is a 98 LX 4dr auto. There has been some after market parts put on and I can't tell if the head has been changed from a d16y7 to a y8. I have searched HT and on google for any pictures indicating the differences, and have found nothing to show me unless I take the valve cover off. I don't have money for a new gasket, and seems a waste of money just to find out.

Pictures for any help that can be given.
I read somewhere that the y8 head has the spark plugs closer to the exhaust, and the y7 has them closer to the intake. I have seen no evidence of this. Is this just someone's crap for a noob like myself?
EDIT: Any distinguishing marks to let me know would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks
Ben

What are you talking about? That is a Y7 manifold...the Y8 doesn't have the airbox directly behind the valve cover.
It's a Y7 head.

Re: What head is this? (BauleyCivic)
Where would a VTEC solenoid be located at? This will help me when researching pictures of what they look like.
I thank you all for your input, as I am still learing all I can.
Thanks
Ben

Yup y7 head. If he put a y8 head on it but used the y7 manifold them he needs to be slapped. Same as Bauley said, no solenoid, no vtec. The solenoid would be located right next to the water neck on the corner of the head on the intake manifold side.

Thanks all. After seeing that selenoid I looked at the head, and it is 100% not there. NowI know for sure. Y7, like you said.

Oops, just got my new glasses with a new prescription...Saw the top of the airbox and thought it was the plstic over the injectors on the y8
For me
