So right now I have a 99 GSR ECU which I think is obd2b.

And I am using the 99-00 SI engine harness, in order to make it
work I would need the obd2b into obd2a conversion harness???

Is that correct?

Yes, if you want to use a 96-98 GSR ECU.

If you want to use a OBD1 P72 you will need an OBD2b to OBD1 adaptor.

Oh, first I used a 00 GSR ECU, now I'm using a OBD1 P72

OBD1 DEFINATLY better.

I am not using a 96-98 ECU, I am using a 99 GSR ECU.

That would mean I need a obd2b into obd2a harness correct?

if you say so, i used the obd2 gsr ecu and ran fine then went with a obd2-1 harness and a chipped p28 with RT special chip. After i used the chipped ecu i throw code 1 for primary o2 after like 20 mins of driving. gsr ecu no codes.
