What do you guys think?
I'm new to Honda and I'm looking for a small efficient daily. What do you guys think? Both of these are 4 hours away so it's kinda a gamble with both.
First, a '91 STD D15B1 4-spd that is in excellent body condition, has 104k miles, but is only running on 3 cylinders and needs to be towed home to be diagnosed and fixed (I'm confident I can figure it out, but at what cost). Guy's asking $800.
Second, a '93 VX. Running, "in need of tune-up", 230k miles. Has the usual wheel well rust. Guy's asking $700.
I know how rare the VX's are, especially in stock trim. Personally I'd like the VX driveline in the '91 body. It's just those mileage ratings on the VX are irresistible, along with the fact that I can check it out before buying and drive it home and I'm all done with the $700.
What would you guys buy?

Re: What do you guys think?
both but if you plan on holding onto the car and making a project out of it id say the 91 because the body appears to be in pretty good shape. Thats a good amount of rust on the vx though but if you just want something to bang on and get you around id have to say the vx. theyre both worth over $700 imo.

If money's not tight for you and you have a daily driver/other vehicles to use as commuters, it's all your choice. If I were needing a vehicle asap, and money was tight, the 1993 VX of course would have my wallet. I mean, it's already running, has great mileage, and only supposedly requires a tune-up. Combined with the purchase, registration, the tune-up and all that little junk, you wouldn't need to spend more than $1,000 to be satisfied. The 1991 on the other hand, needs a tow, then repairs, then it's fair share of tune-ups, and miscellaneous expenses. If it's a matter of transportation, the 5th gen would be the obvious choice. Then again there is the high-mileage in it that's a factor to consider.

Ok thank you for the responses, I was kinda leaning towards the VX. I'm not planning on making it a project, I have a regular commuter that doesn't et as good of mileage nor is nearly reliable enough, but I don't want to get rid of it. I could care less about the rust really as long as it isn't dangerous. The less money I spend overall, the more I save and it's not going to be a super long term car anyways.
My very first car was a red '93 cavalier with a 2.2 and autotragic that only got 28mpg and had much more rust than that and I payed $600 for it so it's kinda like an upgrade to that.
I guess I outta scoop up the rusty VX and not feel so bad about wasting a nice shell.
