Default What to do: Odometer not reading correctly

Hello. I recently bought a car and the odometer is wayyy off. Like, going 20 mph reads 40mph, going 40mph reads 60mph or around there. Plus, the rpm is off too, it starts at 1000rpm when the car is just in one spot.

I have tried disconnecting the batteries and the wires and hooked them back together already but none seem to work. Is it really a messed up odometer? Please let me know. Thanks

speed being off can be a malfunction vss(vehicle speed sensor) or a japanese one. another thing that can cause speed to be off is the size of the wheels. having bigger size rims or smaller size will throw off the speedomeeter. if you want to see if this is you, check your tire. there should be a set of numbers; "example 195/60/15" make sure the number you find on your tires match up with original honda spec.

the rpm being off most likely is due to timing. either your timing is incorrect or your timing belt jump a couple of tooth. spark plugs, wires, etc. you can try to turn the idle screw on the throttle body to lower rpm idle. but that will throw off your timing. it's best to always re-time it.
