I bought a new jack and jackstands and everything for today, but when I went down there, I couldn't separate my lower ball joint so I could get the lca off (I'm replacing those with gsr ones too). Any tips? The fork just wasn't working...

Just making sure you took the pinch bolt out of the shock fork so it can slide off.

Try this out. Hook you suspension back up, with the forks and all, as you would reassemble your suspension. Use your jack, but before you do this put your lug nuts on,so you don't screw the lugs up. Compress the suspension with the jack. Then use a hammer and tap the lower control arm, the suspension should force the ball joint out.

No I didn't take the pinch bolt out, but I took the bolt/nut that held it to the lca out. I didn't think I needed to remove the fork.

Yeah I tried that too. Maybe i need a bigger hammer but it just wasn't happening. I wish I could get a ball joint separator like they have in my Helms manual, that seems to be the best solution.

hope u got it fixed by now but mine was stuck as well nothing worked, and i ripped the boot tyring to use the fork, and my 2 post puller bent the bottom of the ball joint up so i couldn;t get the castle nut back on. i used a plumming tourch and warmed the bj up and it pooped right off, but i have to replace it anyway, use a little heat but keep the flames off the boot.

Have you tried putting a jack underneath the bolt?

If no....
Put the castle nut right at the end, then put the jack and jack it up.
That should work, always works for me.

PS- give the lca good wacks(with the hammer) on the sides before you put the jack there.

loosen the castle nut a 1/4 inch.
raise the suspension a bit.
slip the handle of a ratchet or breaker bar in between the top of the LCA and the backside of the steering knuckle.
then lower the suspension a bit, the balljoint should pop right out.

easy, oldschool, famous trick.
