weird idle and stalling
Ok, for the past week or so my car has been idling strange, when i start it up it runs and idles fine but if I drive for about 10-20 mins then stop at a stop light or park it will jump from 1100 to about 300, no CEL, doesn't sputter or smoke just idles down then up fast. Tonight as I was driving home from school I was coming up to a red light, put my foot on the clutch took it out of 3rd and started to downshift when all of sudden the tach goes from about 2500 to 200 then back up then so on this time I had a CEL. So I made an *** of myself and pushed my car to a side street popped the hood, check all connections and so on, everything seemed ok. So as I dial my moms cell phone number to have her come get me my cell dies, great! that topped off my already shitty night. So I try to start my car again, turn the key fires right up for about 2 seconds then dies. CEL light was on Now its just pissing me off some more, after screaming a few choice words at my car I turn the key and it starts right up, this time there is NO CEL and I quickly drive off trying to get as much speed so if it dies again I will have enough to coast into a parking lot or something, the car made it all the way back to my house with no probs, this was about a three mile drive. I pulled in my parking spot shut the car off, tried to start it again, fired right up. I cant figure out what could possible be wrong here and I cant check the code because the CEL is not on anymore, unless it is stored in the ECU and just dosent light up now. Any one have suggestions on what could be wrong?
THANKS

I checked my throttle cable (I am having similar problems) and it was loose...it just cleared up my weird jumpyness my car was having....it still throws codes though...at random and they sometimes don't even come on for a while. I really think its the ecu.

Okay I know this is a far shot, but did you have a system like amp(s). I once was running way too much beat on my ride. Well it was doing the same thing, but once I took off the amp it was coo... need a Capacitor. Then it started to happen again when I installed a Type R Manifold on a b16, fixed that by using a type R Throttlebody. Check you vacuum hoes as well.

i had the same problem when i swaped in my d16y8..but i had to convert my dx harness to ex modification...and still had weird ildes...then i figured it out after a couple of weeks...it was a on back of the intake maifold, it'll a lil thing that sticks out he intake maifold..and it sucks in air...its on the back of the maifold located on the driver side...maybe if u plug that up ..maybe it should stop the weird ilde prob. worked for me. just my 2 cents

He has a '92 LX.
Jump the service connector, then turn the power on (turn the key forward without turning on the motor). The "Check" light on your INSTRUMENT PANEL (not the ECU) will flash. Count the flashes.
Then, come back to Honda-Tech, use the "Search" function. Search "ECU codes."
And translate the codes.

Re: (Grimm)
Even if it was Code 1, the code would repeat itself. Meaning, if it came on then turned off, it'll do it again until the key is off.
You must not have jumped the service connector properly if it's just coming on then going off like the normal start-up check.
If there's a CEL, it'll flash the code and it'll repeat it over and over again.
If there's NO CEL, it'll STAY ON.

Re: weird idle and stalling (92lxsedan)
can it be a distributor problem??
that's what happenned to me...i would drive and all of a sudden the car would shut off by itself, then it wouldnt crank. After waiting a couple minutes the car would turn on again and be normal. Then the problem got worst and worst then i finally changed my distributor and the problem seemed to go away

I had the same problem and I finally fixed it after four months of changing parts. It turned out to be the battery. Who would of thought a battery would do that well my car always started fine but stalled out when I came to a stop. Might want to give that a try.
