Default vtec switch

ok first off if all your going to do is flame this thread than dont waste your time.... i was wondering what would be involved with rigging a switch to the VTEC soleniod to turn VTEC on and off? i make long distance trips and running the car into VTEC while cruising is not the biggest desire of mine. ive seen this once in a del sol that my friends and i ran into a while back and always thought it was something unique and different to do. any help/suggestions?

Yeah seriously. You'd have to be going way too fast in 5th GEAR to make vtec engage while cruising.

Did you think that one through all the way bud?

That just depends.
My itr tranny with JDM final drive, in 5th gear is near vtec around 85mph.
When I road trip through wyoming, on the two land roads, vtec engages alot while passing people.

To the thread starter, you could just run a switch inline to the vtec solenoid, but everytime you flipped the switch, you will get a check engine light.
Not to mention, I dont think you would even notice a difference in you MPG anyway.

You better off just driving a little nicer.

because the ecu is looking for the solinoid, that once you take power from it, the ecu will not read it, and will give you a cel.

when i put the vtec switch on mine i changed the fluid as well, and gained almost 3mpg and 5hp. i got synthetic vtec fluid, i think the old stuff was original cuz it was nasty.
