Default Serious answers needed.

I have an ej2 1993 with a little rust and 160k miles. I went to replace the head gasket tonight. My valves are bent and 2 of my pistons are warped.
I am also a broke as hell college student. Would it be best for me to buy a new engine for the car or just junk what i can out of it and buy a new car???

I really need some input on this one. It is boggling my head.

You can usually pick up a compression tested motor with 100-150k miles for $500 or less at a local junkyard. I would recommend buying a used motor.

well if i were you i'd hold onto the car and look on the forums for a d16 swap, the longblock can be found for 300-500 bucks. a honda is a great car for someone on a tight budget like yourself. good luck

I second the used motor theory. If your pistons weren't bad i would give you a y7 head. About as much as I can do for now.

u can get a D16Z6 or D16Y8 replacement for 4-500 bucks, I wouldn't recommend sticking another 1.5 back in there...but that's ur call... It'll definately cost more to replace and ur engine may not be as reliable, really recommend a D16Z6 or D16Y8 for like 400 bucks in pretty damn good conditon :-\

hope that helps...

New Car= 10000 or more
Good used car (80-100K)= 4-7000
Good used car over 100k =3-5000
Used b-series engine 1000-4500
Used d-series Engine 400-700

Its not rocket science, pick an option in your budget and go with that...

Good point, but try this one out too.

New Honda Reliability - 99%
03-05 Reliability - 85%
98-02 Reliability - 70%
93-97 Reliability - 55%
88-92 Reliability - 40%

Remember, even though you drop a used engine is, doesn't mean its golden. In a week you could need a new rad, cooling fan, strut, starter, alternator, dizzy, O2 sensor, cat, exhaust, healights, axles, tranny....etc...etc...etc...

i hear ya...but if he buys a good engine and the swap is done well i highly doubt the money he spends in matainance in a 2-4year college period of time will even come close to what he'll pay for a new car. I swaped a b18c in my 91 teg my first year in college 2000 my car was almost 10 years old at the time i never had to do much other chainge my oil i replaced a clutch and axles i think once, other than that no probs of course thats just my experience it could be different for everybody
