Vtec not working, Tried everything
I'm new to honda-tech although ive been reading and reading for months on this site, alot of good usefull information. i bought an EG hatch with an LS/VTEC in it about a month ago, ever since i had the car vtec has not been working.
when i first got it, it was showing a code 8 on the p28 ecu.
i replaced the distributor, cleared the code and got a chipped p28 from phearable.net. i have no CEL and still no vtec.
i also have checked all wiring, it seems fine. this weekend i changed the oil pan gasket and banged out a dent in the pan, as i read this could cause vtec not to engauge (pickup looked fine by the way). but still no vtec.
2 issues i think may be the problem are the firstly the VSS, reason being is because the speedo only works until the car is warm, anyone know why? and would this cause a problem? (no code being thrown for this)
the other reason is could the oil line for the ls/vtec be too thin and long for it to hold pressure? because my line is abit thinner than my friends who also has the LS/V, and mines alot longer than his. i can get a pic if needed.
Please get back to me with any ideas or suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance.

Re: Vtec not working, Tried everything
I swapped out the VSS, and im getting the same problem, sometimes the speedo works, sometimes it doesn't. im thinking the plugs bad, i saw corrosion on it and looks like one of the pins inside the plug is broken/missing. anyone know where i can get a new plug with pigtails?

i would check your connections at the ECU. Make sure that the VSS connection is fine. Doesn't matter if your cluster can read the VSS, but it does matter if your ECU can read it. I would check that, look for a pinout on your ECU and check for the VSS wire.

Re: Vtec not working, Tried everything
the problem i found was the cluster was bad, so the speedo's fixed but vtec's still not working.
does anyone know if a oil line too long could cause too low of a pressure at the head?

Swap lines with your friend and see if that does anything. Even though I dont think thats the problem.
It has to be something with your VSS. If thats not working properly your vtec wont either.
