Sorry guys , i was replying to someone else's post but picked new topic instead of replying.

The other post was about overfilling engine with oil, user asked "if i over fill engine with oil would vtec still kick in". Did he mean would the engine still start, or is vtec something that will"kick in"

by the way what does VTEC stand for?

I'm a newbie , just bought an 04 civic coupe ex 1.7 vtec

Any help with mods would be greatly appreciated.

vtec changes valve timing by moving to different camshaft lobes, it activates at a cirtain throttle angle and rpm. I beleive it stands for variable valve timing with electronic lift control. I think it activates anywhere from 4500 to 5000 rpm. I'm sure there will be a million finatics going off about details here and there but in a nutshell that's what it is.

vtw i just re-read your post if you have an 04 civic it has i-VTEC not VTEC, it is different than pre-01 VTEC, it doesnt exactly "kick in" its more constant...im not very familiar with it cause im not really interested but if you use the search function you should be able to find more info on it

some dumb *** the other day told me that vtec stood for the fact that the cylinders are ina v shape, instead of the straight form. now that i think about it, i should have banked him upside the head for lying to me.

actually it kicks in at 5500 rpm

not exactly 5500. it varies depending on ur oil levels, and other perameters. unless u have a VTEC controller, then it will activate at the set RPM.

lol i have a V-AFC lol.... mine is set at 4800, from the stock 5200 soo i dono. the motor is a D16z6(not to much to talk about but... what ya gono do its slow... LOL)

there is more than one engine w/ vtec.
