Default VSS problems on '92 Civic

I have a 92 civic dx. The speedometer was working intermittenly and so I replaced the VSS. It still works intermittenly (like after the car warms up a bit and then it's still not constant), but now it's resting at 40 mph. Anyone have any ideas.

Mine's doing the same after switching the speed sensor, the plug, and the speed sensor gear, so I don't really know.

i'd check the connections and if that's not it then it has to be the wiring.

check the plug itself, is there any grease or grime?

check the grounds as well, known to get corroded.

mine did the same thing but all it was was that the plug got corroded and the connections went bad.

fix: took a pic and bent the connections inside and cleaned with carb cleaner so that they touched and were clean.

worked for me and my co worker

93 hatch and 94 del sol (very common come to find out)
